Please continue reading. I was referring to the TOTAL tax burden: Federal, State, Local. You were only looking at the Federal chart, which has been bouncing along at about the same rate since the 50s.
Yes, this is the case. It took me a while to realize that Apple no longer ships Flash with Macs, and so I was using YouTube sans Flash for about a month. It works on some videos, but not on others.
Federal Income Tax is down - almost every other tax has increased. Local wage taxes, state income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes... It took the recent financial crisis to knock us back down to 1970s levels, but expect that to ramp back up as the economy recovers. Just prior to the financial crisis, we were at an all-time high for total tax burden as a percentage of GDP.
True, but there is a failure and then there is a FAILURE. Lights going out... that's an oops. Trunk line overheating and starting a fire during the Superbowl... that's worse. Transformer exploding during Superbowl... that's worse, too. So, yeah, the system failed - and maybe putting the circuit breaker in-line makes a problem more likely. But it almost certainly makes the failure less severe.
I guess I consider horses closer to "rock" when it comes to the category of "capable of feeling betrayed". If anything, as herd animals they should appreciate a little display of dominance. Pack animals like dogs/wolves will eat their dead, so if anything they seem to consider it an honor to be eaten. Anthropomorphizing...
Alright, smart guy, how can you be a "backstabber" or "betrayer" to an animal unless you imagine the animal capable of understanding - let alone having an opinion about - these very human concepts? The very concept of "betraying" a horse only makes sense if the horse can feel betrayed.
Why would a joystick need to be 1:1 with the mechanical system? Surely some form of damping would address the spurious input. And as for g-forces... fighter jets have joysticks!
Huh? People eat all of the animals you listed (except perhaps falcons). Horse meat is taboo in the US, but commonly eaten in France and Italy. Donkey meat is not as common, but still consumed in Europe. Dogs and cats are eaten in Asia. Animals don't really care what you do with them when you die - you are anthropomorphizing.
Well, indeed some of us look for trouble:) I have a laptop that I always want to Just Work, and then I have a collection of other computers, always in some state of dis-assembly...
In the context of this discussion, if the guy can't use Google for a computer with Windows 7, then I'm not even sure he HAS a geek card!
In the US, at least, Macs are not really priced at a premium to similar brand-name PC hardware. People often make the mistake of comparing specs of the laptops without including size and weight.
If you're installing the OS yourself then you can choose almost any laptop for half the price.
Macbooks make very nice Windows machines, and they are +/- 10% of similarly-spec's Windows machines. The main additional expense would be the Windows 7 license, but he may already have one.
But if he's not in the installin' mood, I linked to the Dells.
I think it calls for a bit more civil disobedience than that. See how many open WiFi networks you can get strikes for. Obviously, don't do anything illegal - only share files that will cause a false positive... not actual copyrighted works, and don't break into anything.
He mentions, right in the executive summary of the paper, that the model does not include cloud cover. He then describes his research in detail and even offers a download of the Fortran source code along with some sample datasets. I'm not sure how much more wide-open the author could be. You could pick up where he left off, add cloud cover, and bam - "instant" thesis.
I'm too cheap for that. They get occasional access to a Kindle and that's it :)

Kids sites, educational or otherwise. All seem to use flash. IIRC, Khan Academy as well. If you have kids, you "need" Flash.

Got my numbers here.

On some of our phones, that would leave little but contacts and apps.

Yup, the sides of the bell curve are approximately the same size...

Like I said, anthropomorphizing.

Even the US still uses some Napoleonic Law (or more correctly something quite similar to it), in Louisiana.

Agreed... In general sticking to whatever OS the laptop came with will give you the least amount of trouble.
In the US, at least, Macs are not really priced at a premium to similar brand-name PC hardware. People often make the mistake of comparing specs of the laptops without including size and weight.
Ah, my apologies... I sometimes forget about people living outside the US when talking about prices.
Yeah, I replied to my own reply :)
Go here instead and check the "Windows 7" box.

Huh? Maybe 10%?
But if he's in the market for a $400 laptop, then Apple makes no such beast.
Replying to myself... Dell links to Windows 8 laptops from their Windows 7 page... ugh.
Still, they have Windows 7 laptops:
XPS 13
Their m5030 is in the stores.
Latitude 2xxx
Latitude E5xxx
Go to their Business site, select laptops, and check the box for Windows 7.
Get a Macbook and then put Windows 7 on it.
Dell also has a Windows 7 page.
I'm sure any business-friendly vendor will have the same if you poke around.
