Oh contrare my friend! First we'll never solve our earthly issues completly. Even Jesus Christ said "... the poor you shall always have with you,..." Secondly what do we get out of it? Well we get the benifits of the techonology spin off's that were required to send the space craft to Saturn. For example, because of our 1960's space program to send a man to the moon we got - cost effective micro telemrety used by hospitals, Paramedics, and other rescue personell. Also the cam-corder was a direct spin off from the 1960's space program. The micro computer was a direct spin off of the 1960's space program - even though it only had 64k of memory (the IBM GP100 computer). How else did the Apollo astronuts get to and from the moon! How about compact avonics use in aircraft. How about your GPS receiver. All of these technologies were "birthed" in the early days of the space program. Believe me, you enjoy far too many comforts today because of prior space programs, even though there opponits questioned their cost/benefit!
