I agree that most people see themselves as more intelligent than they really are, but that wasn't my point. The point I was making was about the reference to Forrest Gump. From my point of view it didn't fit because it seemed that you were taking me seriously. My original post was meant to be anything but serious. After my post there were several humorous posts in response. Yours "did not follow". That's all. If you were trying to be funny, it didn't work.
As long as we're turning this into a "serious" discussion about intelligence, I'll tell you my opinion. I would never judge a person's intelligence based on whether or not he believes in evolution. That's not a very good criterion. I know plenty of intelligent people who are skeptical about evolution, and plenty of dumb people who accept it without question. I happen to believe in both evolution and God. What does that make me? Semi-intelligent?:)
My criterion for intelligence? A sense of humor. Think about it.
Not to mention all the dirt, road grime, and bugs you get hit with all the time. I once ran into a swarm of bees that instantly blocked the whole windshield. Only the wipers and washer fluid combo saved me from wrecking. Can nano do bee guts?
the more we plant, cut up and build with, the more CO2 we will remove from the atmosphere
Indeed. And using very old trees which don't fix carbon as fast as they did when they were younger & growing is even better. As long as new trees are planted to replace the old ones the plan is a winner.
I've planted tens of thousands of trees in my life. Where do I go to get my carbon credit?:)
Good; I'll remember that. I usually get out of jury duty because I know half of law enforcement in this area. They don't want anybody who may have any common sense, either.
Either that, or the cases they cited were chosen specifically to make us think that; until you've seen all the cases you can't know the percentage. I know plenty of white, middle-class, average Americans who have been hassled by airport security and have had items seized for no apparent reason. I believe it depends on what items the security personnel need or want that day. They seem to be a bunch of thieves who steal whatever the hell they want.
Atari made some tough stuff. I still have an Atari 400 computer from 1979 that works. As a matter of fact, so do the 800XL and 520ST. Not much use nowadays, but it shows how well-built they were.
That's true. Personally, I'd like to see the voting age raised to 30. A person needs to have lived a little, maybe have a family, before being allowed to vote.:)
(...actually, that's probably longer than many voters have been *alive*)
Most voters are older than that since the percentage of you young whippersnappers who vote is very small. I'll be 55 in a few weeks, and I've been voting longer than many of you have been alive.:)
I won't tell you who to vote for, but you should vote. Get involved from the local level all the way up. It's about the only say you have in government.
Actually there would be so many sources of alcohol that the cost would not skyrocket. Alcohol is not hard to make, gasoline is. Start your own company if you don't like buying from the big guys; you can't do that with gasoline. The point of making all new vehicles alcohol fuel capable is so that the fuel would be available everywhere. No service station is going to sell a product that very few people need.
And a true alcohol-capable vehicle would be able to use alcohols other than ethanol. For example, methanol is easy to make from a variety of sources.
As much as I dislike government mandates, I'd like to see a mandate that all personal autos and trucks sold in the U. S. be capable of using alcohol based fuel. Then in a few years we might possibly see fuels like E85 being sold in more stations. The stuff is almost impossible to find now.
I heard that 90% of all Fords ever made are still on the road. The other 10% actually made it to where they were going. Gives new meaning to the term, "Fucked On Recent Deal".
Just wondering. What about CDs and DVDs given as gifts? Certainly not the original purchaser sharing in that case. What about the rental market? What about the used CD and DVD market? Music and movies could be shared by lots of people who were not the original purchasers.
First we need to mandate that all new vehicles be capable of running on alcohol. It would add very little to the initial cost, and we need vehicles that can run on all kinds of alcohol, including methanol. Only after many more alcohol-burning cars are on the road will the service stations start selling alcohol fuels. There's not a station around here for miles that sells E85. Why should they when there are so few customers who can use it? And how about a tax credit for converting older vehicles to use alcohol?
No big deal. It's just slashdot, not real life. Forget it.

That doesn't make any sense at all. Non sequitur.
I don't have a basement. I just hole up in a back room.
But I guess it sorta goes with my outstanding good looks. :)

Loblolly pines. By the thousands. So, where do I go to get that check?

Of course, Ed would have trouble finding his tv remote. But he's made a lot of money fooling people!

May be a redundant post. I don't have time to read hundreds of posts. Sue me. :)
Does anybody know where that asshole lives?

Never had an apple up my nose.
What? No nose picker?

The victorious lawyer must be a regular slashdot reader.

If optical scanners aren't reliable, then maybe my old test scores really were higher. :)
