Evolution does not need defended, the creationist position is the one that needs defended. Try to make the politician take a absurd stand, or a stand against creationist dogma.
Evolutionary theory has successfully explained and predicted natural phenomena. What part of the creationist theory does the candidate propose to replace the explanation of continental drift, that the fossil record of organic life matches the geological record of non organic activity, etc?
The politician must defend their position. Evolution and natural selection are tools which work, which predict, which are utilitarian. Creationism is a charming story. Just getting people to sort evolution and creationism into those two categories would be a victory.

Exactly. Carefully worded this article is. Infamous 'cracker', not hacker. 'He'd prefer' as in he _would_ prefer, not that he actually does any hacking. Mitnick is a social engineer. Yes, full of tricks like the la/ls gimmick, but it ends there. He's a hustler who has parlayed a conviction for dumpster diving into a flimsy 'takes one to know one' consulting scam telling suits the obvious. Couldn't code his way out of paper bag.
This sort-of-interesting rehash thread has also been enhanced by a misquote. The Reuters article referenced actually says "...impact OF the fly...", and not Hemo's "...impact ON the fly..." in describing why the tse-tse is the target:
"The impact of the fly is difficult to exaggerate," said John Kabayo, regional coordinator for the Pan African Tsetse and Trypanosomosis Eradication Campaign (PATTEC), inaugurated by the Organization of African Unity.
"It's no accident that the concentration of much of the world's most acute poverty is in regions of sub-Saharan Africa infested with it," he said.
King is our era's Charles Dickens with a heavy dash of E. A. Poe. King has recorded the sensibility, the fears and the passions, of the second half of the 20th century. He's way beyond just horror.
I also note that we are no longer in a world where the wordsmith creates just for print alone. Obviously, TV, video, and cinema frequently how one consumes a stary. We are wll beyond just text on a flat surface.
