Verizon is stupid for demanding that the spectrum be auctioned to the highest bidder because Nextel and the FCC are doing what is in the publics best interest.
Exclusive control by one group of the means of producing or selling a commodity or service: Monopoly frequently... arises from
government support or from collusive agreements among individuals (Milton Friedman).
Law. A right granted by a government giving exclusive control over a specified commercial activity to a single party.
A company or group having exclusive control over a commercial activity.
A commodity or service so controlled.
Exclusive possession or control: arrogantly claims to have a monopoly on the truth.
Something that is exclusively possessed or controlled: showed that scientific achievement is not a male monopoly.
Now, where in that do you see that MS has a "monopoly" on desktop OS's? Sure, they have a huge market share, but not an exclusive one.
I believe that MS has shady business practices, but they should be allowed to do what they want to with their OS. If you don't like it, use something else.
Anyone else see this discussion as typical Dem vs Rep nonsense? The reps will always slam Gore no matter how right he is, and the dems will always defend him no matter how wrong he is. Just look through the posts and see what gets moderated as "informative" and what gets a big fat zero. Can you guess which way the moderators lean?
off soapbox
IMHO Gore is a great pick for Apple, mostly because of his Washington connections.
You don't have to edit config files in Windows, because there isn't much to configure with Windows -- another reason to use Linux.
I think what you are looking for is Gentoo. It's a bear to install the OS, but installing packages is a no brainer.
As far as fast, easy to use, GUIs go, I think Windows still has the edge on Linux. So stability ain't all that great...yeah, and security is pretty lax as well. I would be willing to give those up for some speed and the ability to play more games. After all, these are programming mistakes. This I can accept. However, the addition of spyware is not a mistake.
If the national media ever exposes this invasion of privacy by MS, instead of focusing on antitrust suits and SUNs constant whining, I think average users will be pissed. Maybe even pissed enough to switch.

not according to the Citizens Against Government Waste porker of the month

Good luck reading your log files on a 5 inch screen.
The gps idea sounds pretty cool though.

Apple seems to come up with pretty good ideas, then make them worthless to me by forcing me to buy their hardware.

If this article is true, it means that linux_admin_salary = (win_admin_salary + initial_win_cost + cost_of_win_downtime) * (1.11 ~ 1.22) Right?
