    But the government taxes you under the ACA even if you have no income. If you don't buy insurance, they assess the penalties until you start earning income. They are, literally, taxing you for breathing.

    And ALL the insurance companies in the great state of CA agreed? If you have so few choices in that state, I'll bet the problem is government-based cronyism.

    SOME discount if you are a single buyer (not group plan based) is also there. in fact, it can be lower than cobra payments.

    Doctors already cause hypochondriacs to be charged high prices for glucose tablets by writing out prescriptions for "Obecalp". Maybe they have a more clever name for them now.

    So essentially, doctors who write out prescriptions for placebos instead of treating hypochondria are just as bad as the homeopaths.

    Also, how does a product that does nothing cause a drug interaction? I think this is a reaction against not just homeopathy, but natural medicine in general (this from someone who understands homeopathy is bogus).

    Seriously. You can't buy a tire in bias-ply size 7x15-70, but I'm pretty sure it's possible to convert SAE to metric and mount any radial on an old wheel. I guess if you have a 4-lug pattern, replacing the WHEEL could be harder.

    Most people who keep a car for 13 years will have put at least 150,000 miles on it. Besides the possibility of needing a major overhaul, or facing a constant repair cycle, a lot of advancements in fuel economy, emissions, and safety have been made. I think it's reasonable to buy a new one, and I don't understand your claim that every new washer or automobile is "disposable junk".

    I guess the moral here is: don't get a lawyer who sucks. IANAL, but I know that if you claim I'm somehow responsible for my home that's not in the public right-of-way being "in your way", then the municipality (and state, if a state highway) is a party, the title company is a party, and maybe even the utilities in the ROW are parties. Not to mention, you're still facing criminal charges from the police who responded to your BS accident. You had better have a hell of a reason to try to suck me dry over your lousy driving.

    Obviously, when new information comes out (press release: "The factory of company X has just gone up in flames"), everybody's counter should be set to zero

    This is enough to show why your idea won't work... unless you plan is really to collapse the economy. What information is major enough to allow immediate sales of stock, and who gets to choose?

    The law was actually a referendum-- the kind of direct democracy that the Slashdot hive mind normally drools over. Also, since the wording was "one man, one woman," it reestablished the existing laws against polygamy. So why isn't anyone speaking out for the rights of polygamists?
