Sure, I believe in being thankful for what you get.... but Borland isn't giving us anything useful! The "free" compiler does not include a debugger! This is NO WAY to DEBUG anything you create with it! What were they thinking?
Before everyone gets excited about this "free" compiler, allow me to point out to everyone that it is ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS. Want to know why? Because it doesn't include a debugger, that's why. Yep, that's right -- no debugger. None at all. NO WAY to DEBUG anything.
Complain to the VP of Developer Relations at Borland about this. His e-mail is davidi@inprise.com.
I was rather disturbed to see the plug for ThinkGeek at the end of the review. I was even more disturbed when I found out the book is $5 cheaper over at Amazon.com.
I'd prefer not to see endorsements for specific vendors as a part of a book review. But if you have to do it, at least pick the vendor with the lowest price!
Wow. It was great to read such an eloquent passage from Linus himself. It never ceases to amaze me what a great communicator he is. I, for one, am proud to have Linus as "Benevolent Dictator" for Linux.
I think it's important to research web hosting provider's before you pick one. Make sure they have a good reputation. I chose Interland for my site after reading that they won Editor's Choice in PC Magazine's review of web hosting providers. Interland will host you on either Linux or NT, whichever you prefer. They allow cgi-bin scripts, database access, and other "extra" stuff you sometimes don't get with the other guys. I've been very pleased.
Great closing line indeed! I was wondering when someone was going to throw "old" Ethernet technology in Bob's face. Another great point was how some software does actually improve with age. Something johnny-come-lately Microsoft still doesn't understand.
I think it's great that a company the size of Home Depot is considering a move to Linux. We have to remember that even though Windows doesn't cost that much copy, it can add up to BIG BUCKS for a company of Home Depot's size.
We also have to consider the secondary effects of this move by Home Depot. Just think, that means they will be HIRING Linux gurus. This is good news for the Linux job market, and it's also great for people deciding whether or not to learn Linux. If a robust job market for Linux people is created, it can spell nothing but good news for the Linux community.
Don't switch your school over to the free C++ 5.5. It doesn't include a debugger and is therefore worthless for learning programming.

Somebody needs to send a barrage of e-mail to ABCNews letting them know that they got the story all wrong about the DVD trial today.
Why do we need so many open source licenses? What's wrong with the GPL?
I voted for Ronald Reagan. He's #9 on the list.
:-)
