If you choose to go to court then you're asking the authorities to impose a solution that quite possibly neither of you will like. As an example of what that does to a person, a friend of mine who went the court route came into work one day, his eyes were dead, he sat down and dialed the family court, "Ah, hello. Can you put me through to the person who is in charge of fucking up my life....."
My parents have been married for over 50yrs, I was married for 20yrs. Staying together, or not, has fuck all to do with a "legally binding contract" or the "marriage industry". Those things arose because people were doing them long before they were cast as laws, the marriage contract is about property and kids, staying together is about having a partner in life/crime.

As for their opinion on copyright, my own opinion says they have copyright on the content, they don't have copyright over how I choose to view it (or not view it). Yes, it's a balance of many things not just tax dollars. However something is way out of balance when it's "profitable" to ship empty cardboard boxes from the US to China for recycling. If it's a civil case why are the police involved in a raid, why is there even a raid, what happen to the regular discovery processes? Also why is it illegal to download a file you find on the internet? Everything on the internet is automatically copyrighted, how am I to know if someone uploaded it without the owners permission? Sounds to me like the crime in this racket is not paying the extortion. As you say everyone is playing by the rules so the problem is the law that makes this an acceptable behavior. The MAFFIA have tried their hardest to criminalize downloading here in Australia, so far they have been told to fuck off since the damages actually incurred don't even add up to the $50 minimum required to get a hearing in the small claims court.
