Hansen is at the very top of his field, yet he is not allowed to have an opinion about the politics of his field? His science speaks for itself, his politics is wholly consistent with his science, and even if it wasn't he still has a right to his political opinion.
based on a decade of green-politics sponsored science
Climate science did not come about at the same time you happened to notice it. The history of climate science (as related to AGW) goes back more than a century, the physics that fingers CO2 as the driver was discovered in 1824 when Fourier was inventing spectral analysis. As for geo-engineering we have already pumped half a trillion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere in an uncontrolled experiment, and we are on track to double that in the next 40yrs.
The ground I'm sitting on has been at the bottom of a tropical sea and has been underneath mile tall glaciers.
Yes, but would you still be sitting on that ground in those conditions? All species must adapt to change or die, the least painful adaptation the human species can make in a warming world is to stop deliberately warming it.
BTW: I don't deny Luddites exist but I see far more techno-conservative fanatics displaying their anti-science, economic-alarmisim by telling me how reducing emissions is going to turn everywhere into Somalia. The two positions are equally absurd, the difference is that the Luddites have zero political power.
ignoring the fact that the "solution" is far, far worse than the "problem"
Economic alarmists said the same thing about removing lead from petrol, they said the same thing about Reagan's cap and trade system on sulphur emissions, they said the same thing about banning DDT for agricultural use, reduction of CFC's, etc, etc. In fact they say the same thing whenever there is talk about regulating what can/can't be dumped on the commons.
So blind, egotistical self righteousness trumps brown people getting enough food to eat. Yeah, that'll work.
It has for at least the last 200yrs, and pretending AGW has no ill effects on "brown people" is just a continuation of that blind, egotistical, self righteous, attitude.
Here's the full quote... "Many orthodox people speak as though it were the business of sceptics to disprove received dogmas rather than of dogmatists to prove them. This is, of course, a mistake. If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time."
Now what was it that you were saying about the requirements of physicality relative to location in bounded space?
The term "cattle call" comes from show biz, it means to audition a large number of unknown actors, it is not meant to be taken literally. Do you also object to similar terms such as "bull pen" in baseball, or "cat walk" in the fashion industry?
can they prove the network has not become self aware?
"If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion...." - Bertrand Russell.
I don't understand how cloud seeding can possibly be effective. It seems hard to believe that the air above dry places becomes supersaturated because it doesn't have enough dust in the air to act as condensation nuclei. Besides, a cloud is already a bunch of droplets that have formed around condensation nuclei. These droplets then sink to an altitude below the dew point and then simply evaporate again (forming the base of the cloud). So how can cloud seeding overcome the altitude of the dew point?
Yes, I realise that vertical winds and the size of ice crystals complicates things but I still can't see artificial cloud seeding as having a significant effect on rainfall.
Downloading is not a crime in Oz and nobody has ever been sued for it in an Australian civil court, but somehow the Australian government is responsible for Overseas_guy's rampant paranoia? He was never in any danger and should have done what most Aussie's do in that situation, ie: tell his current ISP to go fuck themselves and switch to one of the many ISP's that do not forward AFACT's idle threats to their customers.
Said so from the land of 3 strikes-your-out.. seriously besides France, I thought Australia was the worst place to be if you're a pirate
Don't believe anything AFACT tells you. There are no baseball inspired laws in Oz against downloading, rumours of such were just another AFACT wet dream. The MO of these parasites is simple and obvious, make exaggerated claims in country A about what is done to "battle piracy" in country B, if country A is dumb/corrupt enough to actually implement it in law, reverse A with B and repeat.
Also it is not a crime to download copyrighted material in Oz since everything on the internet is copyright by default, sure AFACT can try and sue you in civil court for damages but it's never been done because the only damage they can claim is the real cost of the material, as such most cases would not even make the $50 minimum damages bar to get the case heard in the small claims court. If AFACT conducted themselves like their brethren do in the US (pay $X,000 or we will sue), I'm pretty sure they would be investigated by the authorities for racketeering and/or extortion (admittedly I may be giving them too much credit).
Maybe this is the future of scanning? Stop people if they have any ideas of blowing the plane up in their head.
No plane would ever fly again since the scan would result in 100% of passengers and the entire crew being stopped. I mean, how does one NOT think of blowing up the plane when they know their thoughts are being scanned to find out if they're thinking about blowing up the plane?
Your maths sucks because it's based on incorrect assumptions, here are some real statistics...
1. Measles is one of the leading causes of death among young children even though a safe and cost-effective vaccine is available.
2. In 2008, there were 164,000 measles deaths globally – nearly 450 deaths every day or 18 deaths every hour.
3. More than 95% of measles deaths occur in low-income countries with weak health infrastructures. [do not take your non-immune kid overseas and make sure he does not come into contact with illegal immigrants]
4. Measles vaccination resulted in a 78% drop in measles deaths between 2000 and 2008 worldwide. [do the maths on that using point 2 above]
5. In 2008, about 83% of the world's children received one dose of measles vaccine by their first birthday through routine health services – up from 72% in 2000.
6. More than 20 million people are affected by measles each year. [combined with point 2 this gives a global figure of ~8 deaths per 1000 cases].
7. The measles vaccine has been in use for over 40 years. It is safe, effective and inexpensive.
Source for the above facts
Furthermore, the first 20 years of licensed measles vaccination in the U.S. prevented an estimated 52 million cases of the disease, 17,400 cases of mental retardation, and 5,200 deaths.....Although it was declared eliminated from the U.S. in 2000, high rates of vaccination and good communication with persons who refuse vaccination are needed to prevent outbreaks and sustain the elimination of measles in the U.S. - WP
Now weigh all that against - Severe side effects of the MMR vaccine:
1. Allergic reaction (less than 1 per million).
2. Long-term seizure, brain damage, or deafness (so rare that the association with the vaccine is questionable).
Source. The same source also gives a figure of 1-2 deaths per 1000 cases in the US. I could not find any credible source claiming a single death from the measles vaccine despite the fact that literally billions of people have received the jab over the last 4 decades.
I agree with your post, as I said lobbying is not a type of corruption, it simply means "petition the government". However corruption of the lobbying process is routine, particularly in the US where campaign funds regularly determine the outcome of elections. With such ubiquitous corruption of the process, it's easy to see why people think lobbying = corruption.
BTW: A corporation represents their shareholders with their consent, it does not represent it's workers, although it may falsely claim to do so. A union represents it's members with their consent, it may also make the false claim of representing non-members in the same industry. If a corporation, union, or any other organisation is miss-representing you then the solution is to divorce yourself from that organisation, but very few people take on that level of personal responsibility. eg: who the hell knows, or even cares, what shares their superannuation fund buys and sells? - I know I don't.
Lobbying is NOT a type of corruption. When grandma writes a letter to her local politician complaining about this or that, she is lobbying. When a politician sells his ear at a $5k per head dinner, that is (legalised) corruption.
I believe your research is worth LESS than a sack of warm shit because Hansen strongly recommends nuclear power, Jones and Mann advocate "reducing emissions" but AFAIK do not advocate any specific technological solution as to how to achieve that.
I don't agree that nuclear power is the silver bullet you seem to think it is, but I do recommend that you actually listen to what these scientists say in their own words before you gulp down any more of that anti-science kool aid you're drinking.
While it does contain news, the story clearly takes sides using highly opinionated language, then tops it off by linking to the Green party.
Just a guess, but maybe it's "clearly biased" because the site belongs to Senator Scott Ludlam, a senior member of the Green party?/sarcasm.
PS: Kudo's to the submitter for linking to the original source rather than an opinion blog about a newspaper article about the senator's press release..

IP theft, or whatever the crime is in AU

is the identity of the original leakers also subject to your postulate on selective leaking?
It certainly is part of Assange's.
I call bullshit, what are the names of the leaker's revealed or confirmed by Assange?
Thankfully they do have the authority to quarantine irresponsible people with infectious diseases, and rightly so.

children should be vaccinated against their parents dogmas
Education is the only known vaccine against dogma, unfortunately most victims catch it from their parents before they get to school age.
Morally bankrupt self interest, AKA - the American dream.

No, your failure to comprehend the GP's words did that.

Top that for a "get off my lawn" potential. "Tomorrow People" must date back to the mid '70s.
Standing up for "God Save the Queen" at the local theater before watching "Born Free" (circa 1966).
And the teachers aren't suing?
Australia has adopted a lot of things from US culture, thankfully litigiousness is not one of them.
