Microsoft wrote CPM/86? They sure didn't write DOS. Seattle something or other did. CPM/86 died because it was too expensive. Microsoft was cheap. People are cheap.
If you can borrow it and you put up 100% of the cash value. IE no margin on the short. BUT how small is the float? Be carefull with companies with a small number of shares outstanding.

They weren't a spinoff. [They may actually be older then Microsoft] but microsoft did/does? own 10% of the company. Microsoft invests some money many years ago.
") The fact that Linux IS truly portable to competing CPU's is exactly why I distrust Intel's "Linux initiatives"... why would Intel push an OS that is portable over an OS that is TIED to Intel? My answer is they don't know what to do for now so they're just playing along. "
Actually Intel hates Microsoft more then anybody else. Guess how Intel felt when Microsoft starting pushing NT on non-intel hardware. You know what they say. "paybacks a bitch"
The piece I read clearly implied the idea was to license IBM/Linux to the clone builders so they can ship machines with an OS [Linux] Before you say Linux is "free" and doesn't need to be licensed I'll bet they will include a free copy with every chip bought.
"On the other hand, Motorola does need a severe kick in the butt (for lack of enthusiasm for their own damn product), and IBM is just the cowboy to do it."
It's not like IBM hasn't done the exact same thing. OS/2 was [and is] a much better product then Win/95 or 98.
Disgrace? This is 1999 no disgrace. The other thing is Motorola owns alot of Iridiums debt. I think more then the stock they own in Iridium. Rumour has it they have been buying more of Iridiums debt in the market. They have also been pushing a plan to refiance the company. Most [all?] of the debt gets converted into equity. The current shareholders get basically zero. Maybe a little more but I wouldn't bet on it. Motorola is no worse off. Iridium has a much lower debt load. Everybody but the shareholders gets something.
You can get the "upgrade" version of Corel's suite here for around $100CDN [$65US] It wouldn't surprise me if the price of the suite and the distribution is the same or lower. Hell if it is and I can just install the suite I'd buy it and throw out the rest.
Considering the number of Windows users I see asking about running ftp servers it seems you don't need to be a linux user to be running "server" configured boxes.
I've got a Rage Fury using the framebuffer. Video out works fine up 800X600. Well fine is being nice. It's looks like a vic20-) But it works. Just set the card to either 640X400 or 800x600. Turn off the system and plug the video cable in. Then boot the system.

Well? Lots of noise but I want to know what will the boards be like? What will they support?
