Also, does Bill share is deep thoughts and concerns to every peon at MS? Does the accounting department, maintainence, secretaries, give two shits about Linux?
It's a big load...
Actually, most were not intended to be funny but an honest guess of what GWB would say if he were honest.
There is one reference to coke, which was obvious since the question was about the drug war and I don't think GWB gives two shits about the drug war except that it scares old people and he wants their votes, as I said in the last sentence.
There are also references to GWB having a limited vocabulary and being fairly unintelligent. The first you can't argue with as he illustrates this on a weekly basis. The second you can argue a little more, but I think it is recognized by even his own party that he is not the most brilliant man. Their comments are often along the lines of "He just has a thick tongue, he is actually not a stupid guy." which is not a resounding endorsement. The media has not skewed my thoughts on this. I have heard him with my own ears not be able to pronounce common words many times. I don't think he is retarded or has a learning disability, I think that he has never used the word "subliminal" before in his life. That, among other things, says to me that he is not very intelligent. I have never heard Al Gore do the same.
"Redundant" should be used when someone knowingly posts a duplicate either because they are stupid or too lazy to read the previous posts. Since I wrote 10 times more than most of the posts ahead of mine, and it takes a little while to write them, I probably started writing before many of the posts before me.
Lastly, Funny, is relative. Maybe we shouldn't have the moderation "Funny" because people will use it willy nilly on things that you don't think are funny.
Don't get mad because someone doesn't like your candidate.
Huh? Are you talking about economics or a democratic system? I think you are confusing the two. Unfortunatley, because of recent history, many see them as the same thing and they are not.
Money==Speach only in economics, you support or remove support from a product by buying or not buying it. Products are not elected as the most popular, they are created most popular by their place in the market.
The basics of the democratic political process is that all people who are adult citizens of that country/group/club/whatever, have the right to one vote to cast for the person they feel would do the best job. However, there is not free access to those who want to become candidates.
Currently soft money is being used by people to market their preferred candidate much like a product. In my state, there are like 8 people on the ballot for President, only 4 of which I have heard of. Why? Because of the money that some of the candidates have to promote themselves. So I have heard of 4, I have only heard positions of 3 so now they have effectively narrowed my vote down to three.
If soft money is not allowed, and equal time is given to each candidate, all are in the debates, then you have a fair democratic system. Right now it is a mix of democracy and monetary marketing muscle.
The War on Drugs has been a consistently neglected topic in discussions surrounding this federal election.
My question is, do you believe the War on Drugs has been an unqualified success, and if not, what would
you change about it if elected president?
Answer: The war on drugs is a failure. I can speak from personal experience. You can get coke in almost any city in America, especially if you are willing to turn a trick. And this shit is good! Not that shit blow from Mexico, either, good Bolivian, Peruvian stuff. Coca para los todas.
This problem mainly effects poor black people, so frankly, I have little interest in it.
2) Minority Religions...
by Electric Angst
What will you do to protect the rights of atheists and those who hold minority faiths, such as Wicca,
Santaria, Shinto, et al?

3) Why give a tax cut?
by funkman
With the surplus, everyone has been saying "Let's have a tax cut, Let's have a tax cut." In the meantime,
Alan Greenspan and friends are trying to keep inflation and the speed of the growing economy in check so
it doesn't burst. Which they are doing by raising interest rates periodically. (6 times this year)
A tax cut flies in the face of what Greenspan is trying to do. A tax cut will inject more money into the
economy and do what Greenspan is preventing.
Why is a tax cut so big? Wouldn't the money be better spent on the deficit so when worse times roll along, a
tax cut can be easily given by not paying as much on the debt?
Answer: You talk a lot and I get confused, but I did get the beginning. Because that is what I promised all the rich people that paid to get me into office and I keep my promises. I am rich, my father is rich, my vice president is rich, all my friends are rich. What do we get from the government? Nothing, we pay and get nothing back. We aren't on welfare, foods stamps, we have the best private insurance money can buy, we don't need medicare, medicaid, or any government services. All the government does for us is make us let black kids in our kids schools, pay crack whores to have more babies, and give condoms to children so they fuck like rabbits, and thats not right.
4) electoral reform
by carleton
Some people, especially those that favor '3-rd' party candidates, have called for the ending of the electoral
college system to be replaced by a simple purely popular vote, or at least allowing for splitting the electoral
votes by each state. The best recent example was the Bush-Clinton election. Clinton received 43% of the
popular vote (but a sufficient majority of the electoral vote), whereas Perot got at least 10% of the popular
vote but zero electoral votes. If memory serves, Vermont is the only state which does currently allow for its
votes to be split; if someone wins 60% of the Vermont popular vote, they get 2 votes and the 40% candidate
gets 1. This in contrast to California, where someone can get 51% of the popular vote, and therefore gets
53 (or whatever it is nowadays) electoral votes. What is your position on this issue?
Answer: Again, I became confused on the third sentence. Please keep these short. Why should I want to change this? The system is set up to continue the two party system, of which I am one. If you have more choice, I and my friends have a lesser chance of winning.
5)How Do You Feel About Intellectual Property?
by Phil Gregory
In this age of the Internet, intellectual property has become a very important concept to many people. Many
companies make their living on the artificial scarcity provided by intellectual property laws, selling
information that they have either created or aggregated. Some others, mostly in the Free Software world,
make their living seemingly in spite of these laws, selling their services based on information that is freely
given.
Do you feel that out current system of intellectual property is a good one? Which parts of it (e.g.
trademarks, patents, copyrights) do you feel are well suited to the world of the Internet and which do you
think need to be changed (and, if changes are needed, what changes are needed)?
Answer: Alright, I'm with you on this one, this is money again. The laws have been written with the large companies in mind, not the general population. This is because large companies give money to the parties, specifically my Republican party, and so we try to accomodate those that keep us in office. I will support current intillectural property laws as long as it is politically in my best interest, which right now looks to continue into the foreseeable future. I am here, running for President of the United States, because I can "play ball". John McCain is much more popular than I with the general public, but he can not "play ball" with those at the top of the Republican Party, and as we discussed earlier, the system is set up for the two party and those that fund them.
I am the type of person that believes in keeping things the way they are, as is Al, because I am rich and powerful, and the things that got me here are the things I will continue to support. I will get NOTHING from changing intillectural property laws and all the large companies will lose important revenue streams.
6) Encryption....
by SquadBoy
Many tech people think that strong encryption is one of the best ways we have to protect freedom both now
and for future generations. For example to preserve information that future not so friendly governments
may think we don't need to have and to make sure that things we want to have remain private remain
private. Given this what would you do to help preserve our right to privacy through the use of strong
encryption? Also in a related question what are your thoughts and what do you plan to do about the fact
that we can not export many forms of strong encryption?
Answer: Now we know I am not too smart so I am going to keep this simple. Whatever helps business, I am for. I think this will help businesses, so I am for strong encryption available to them. If I can do this without giving the general population, (i.e. criminals) this strong encryption, I will, but I am told by smart people that this would be impossible, so we'll give it to everyone.

against globalization and the rising power of corporate multi-nationals. Do you believe that these people

take as president to deal with their concerns?
Answer: This is not a problem yet. They are small and ineffectual up till now, so we can ignore them for the forseeable future.
8) Asteroid Defenses

9) The Future of the Country, and of Humanity
by 11223
I'm very concerned with the future of the country, and about what our national mission seems to be.
Looking back through American history, every period seems to have a defining popular mission - like the
"manifest destiny" movement in the 19th century, the Depression, World War II, and the Cold War. During
these times, there would be one struggle or idea that captivated the attention of the nation, sort of
providing a national mission.
I'm a little confused as I look around today. What is our mission? To me, it seems to be "to watch TV and
use the Internet." What would you say the defining national mission of today is? What should it be?
Furthermore, how would you show this in your activities as a lawmaker? (For instance, if our national
mission is the pursuit of science, then would you increase funding for scientific pursuits in the budget?)
Answer: This is right up my alley.
I am for a strong America, a good America. An America that is strong and good. I am against our children being killed, and us losing money. I am for us not dying, and am indifferent to people in other countries dying unless it effects us in a bad way. Africa is far away, black, and has only minimal economic ties, so I will talk about how horrible things are there but will never send our children to fight there.
I am for rich people mainly, but will tell you I am for everyone, even though I do little to nothing for those who actually need help from the government.
I promise to always talk in generallities, like "I am inclusive, not devicive. I want prosperity to continue..." and not talk specifics that make people angry and confused.
Thank you for this time. I hope you understand me a little better now.
Then you're a pussy. And a rich one at that.
You are willing to give up your rights so that the mean man doesn't come bother you.
But everyone is entitled to their own opinion, (and I am entitled to call them a pussy).
I however would rather fight for what is legally and morally right. I will move over to opennap and be done with what started out as a good, simple idea, and turned into a very interesting test of peoples beliefs, and moral fortitude.
Huh? Assuming what this person wrote is the entire truth of the situation, explain to me where there is anything suspicious that he did? Is checking ports suspicious?
Wow, then I'm a master criminal? Is talking about a crime on IRC a crime? Show me anything that is probable cause for confiscation of equipment.
They can ask questions all they want and you can answer what you want. But getting into someones residence and taking stuff is a whole different ball of wax.
Yeah, taking his stuff and going through it will answer whether he is guilty, as would taking my stuff and scanning through it, and everyone elses, however, this is not legal. You have to have a reasonable explanation as to why this person is more likely to have committed the crime than anyone else that has visited that site.
I'm going to go scan MS's ports and wait by my door for the feds.
Judgement call. It wasn't moderated yet when I read it. I have read several of these same type posts previously that were "authentic", so I took a gamble on this one.
Anyway, you have to believe somebody sometimes.
You make me feel sad. Relax.
If this type of contribution is representative of the female slashdot readers I don't want it to be more inviting to them. I'm suprised you weren't marked off topic or flamebait.
If there was some jackass man that wrote some diatribe everytime someone said "dick" or "bastard", they would get marked down as flamebait instantly.
I don't know how long you have been on slashdot, but it is full of insults, interesting comments, stupid jokes, righteous indignation, a shitload of trolls, and badass 13 year old suburban gangsta's. I have been insulted many times here but I don't get upset. This wasn't even directed at you and you're all strung out about it. People are allowed to have different opinions from you. They can hate women, blacks, dogs, kittens, it is not against the law.
Now if you can intellegently point out why they are idiots and knock them down a notch or two with some biting remark, everyone will like to read it, you'll get some karma, and good mojo from the other readers who think your funny.
You need to pick your battles. This one was really pointless.
Exaclty correct, binarybits. I couldn't say it any better. I don't know if the coward is a programmer. As I program everyday of my life on complex database systems, I know that you make 10 trade offs a day. Some are fine, some you don't even like, but you have a deadline and when asked the customer will CHOSE to take the product 2 months earlier with bugs, than later with less. (notice I didn't say none.)
I don't think that is valid. It would be 2007 before all the bugs are fixed. No one waits to deliver a "perfect" product, at least not of this size, and they shouldn't. You correct all the major ones, publish all the rest for people to see to let them determine how it would effect their deployment, and put it out there.
It's all a judgement call, whats major, whats minor, even what is a bug.
Should they have waited? I don't know, I haven't had a problem with my install.
Including "beta" releases of components in a final release is very questionable, but hey, they weren't keeping it a secret. You don't have to deploy it. Stay with 6.x or shit go over to Debian, Slackware, SUSE,......
Oh yeah,
When/. going to hire a GD lawyer to help answer some of these questions so we all don't sit here in a circle jerk everytime one of these things comes up?
I don't think this makes sense. Are banks legally responsible for the contents of safe-deposit boxes? Are junk yards resonsible for stolen cars dumped in them? Are ISP's responsible for the data they transfer?
The answer is "no" to all three. I am sure banks are aware that odds are some of their boxes hold coke, weapons, stolen property. They are renting boxes, not going into business with the people that rent them. The law doesn't require them to run drug dogs through the vaults to make sure. This is the same thing.
The stuff on mojonation seems to be as impossible to decypher as anything out there.
Shit, data is ones and zero's. The contents of every kiddie porn, weapons plans, whatever could be pulled from anyones hard disk if you know the pattern. It's freaking ones and zeros.
The question is, do you knowingly store, copy, transfer anything illegal? No. I couldn't find out what I am transferring/storing/copying if I wanted to.
I thought we all went through this argument about freenet/napster/gnutella before.
Hi Coward. Sure it does. If I believe it, it is the opposite of flamebait. Flamebait means it was written for the purpose of stirring people up for the sake of causing an argument. An example would be those that frequently post "Linux is shitty and MS rules!" The writer doesn't believe these statements at all, they just want to start a fight.
I am sorry you were offended. Welcome to free speach.
"Offended" is not one of the choices listed in moderation.
Bullshit, that was flamebait. I was giving my opinion. I consider her part of the problem even though she disguises herself at helping it.
If you disagree, thats fine, but it doesn't make it flambait.
Meta-moderation will stike its revenge on you!

I don't know if youre joking or not but "No". As with all things, people use what they need and can get access too. A non geek, up until recently, had no use for computers, internet, etc. Now they can make money, which is their primary goal, and they want to use them.
The conflict comes when sharks (business people) make their way into the goldfish (nerds) tank. Business people survive by taking other peoples money, some more ethically than others. Nerds survive by enabling people to do things they couldn't before, some more ethically than others.
This "Ask" just really pisses me off.
If it took this guy reading/. and it's comments to understand that censorship is bad, he is an idiot and an easily persuaded one at that. And then the first time he is presented with a minor test, he buckles.
Pathetic.
When my morals hit the real world I stand by my morals. It's been a pretty easy rule to follow. Now, I am a little more Nazi about my morals than most people, but it's how I can look at myself in the mirror.
In this case I would agree with a previous poster. Either have the internet or don't.
If this is for a paying job and you disagree with it, yet are still implementing it, then you are a whore, plain and simple. I can't believe there aren't other computer jobs out there.
If you think censorship is right, then here is a list:
Shit, fuck, cunt, cock, pussy, tits.

Jesus, relax. All he said was it gets a lot of press here. Seeing that there is not a lot new in the language (as described in this article), except that it is a Microsoft product, it may be that it is too much press.
First, personal shit should be kept off/., especially by it's authors. Really unprofessional. Secondly, at the very least you should have disclosed your relationships with both people (relatives) and companies (Time City). I know that you must have friends all over the industry, but if you state that at the top of the article, then your girlfriends old boyfriend, would have little to say, and you wouldn't have had to respond.

Bad Moderation Alert: What classifies this as a troll? Is it such comman knowledge what these "webbugs" on/. are?
Is the person saying something inflametory that they know to be false to get a response? Just because you are satisfied with the explanation, doesn't mean everyone has to be. Or is it that/. is somehow holy and never should be questioned?
Personally, I've seen these images at the top and was suspicious, and now from the informative responses, I know what they are.
Thats nothing. Windows went from v3.1 to 95, then from 98 to 2000. Jesus, next it's Windows 1,000,000. With a name like that, that's GOT to be a good product.
Thats interesting you say Hiawatha Bray. I had no idea she was a known troll. I wrote her an email about 3 months ago that was one of my most trying. I kept having to edit out the "fucking idiot"'s, and other explitives that I was wanting to put in the letter. I didn't want it to be a flame, and the email actually turned out pretty friendly and teacherly. Now I feel like an idiot for falling for a troll.
I am under the impression that a presidential candidate sending his official response to a media source has the faintest idea who he is speaking to.
In fairness, I am sure the staffer who did this, did a cut and paste from a Bush press release for each of these answers.
I don't think he won any votes here, though.

You correct all the major ones, publish all the rest for people to see to let them determine how it would effect their deployment, and put it out there. ......
It's all a judgement call, whats major, whats minor, even what is a bug.
Should they have waited? I don't know, I haven't had a problem with my install.
Including "beta" releases of components in a final release is very questionable, but hey, they weren't keeping it a secret. You don't have to deploy it. Stay with 6.x or shit go over to Debian, Slackware, SUSE,
Oh yeah, /. going to hire a GD lawyer to help answer some of these questions so we all don't sit here in a circle jerk everytime one of these things comes up?
When
I don't think this makes sense.
/. and it's comments to understand that censorship is bad, he is an idiot and an easily persuaded one at that. And then the first time he is presented with a minor test, he buckles.
If it took this guy reading
"I hope little jr. high schoolers never have to be exposed to these words."
Go live in fucking DisneyLand.
Jesus, relax. All he said was it gets a lot of press here. Seeing that there is not a lot new in the language (as described in this article), except that it is a Microsoft product, it may be that it is too much press.
Mom? Don't bother me when I'm looking important.
First, personal shit should be kept off /., especially by it's authors.
And lastly, I hear she liked him better.;)
Bad Moderation Alert: What classifies this as a troll? Is it such comman knowledge what these "webbugs" on /. are?
/. is somehow holy and never should be questioned?
Is the person saying something inflametory that they know to be false to get a response? Just because you are satisfied with the explanation, doesn't mean everyone has to be. Or is it that
Personally, I've seen these images at the top and was suspicious, and now from the informative responses, I know what they are.
Ha! Now I hope I said "She" in the letter.
