You are correct. We should not need to give up our way of life because a subset of the population is hell bent on destroying it.
The problem is the radicals are willing to take radical action to achieve their ends, but western society does not have the political stomach to take the actions needed to solve the issues.
Make no mistake. These terrorist acts will only continue and with greater frequency.

You simply cannot have that many radicals in a population and expect nothing to happen.
    You must either..
    A. Remove or restrict freedom of moment and Freedom in General
    B. Remove the factors which contribute to a person becoming radicalized
    C. Remove that portion of the population which is most likely to become radicalized.
    D. Ignore the issue and live with constant threat of terrorist attacks.

I know that in the west do not want to appear intolerant and to a large extent we must tolerate some things we do not personally agree with.
But not things which are not compatible with western core beliefs.
We are not at war with Radical Islam. Radical Islam is however at war with us. Unless we fight back, we are going to lose.

LiFi will not be interesting to almost all home consumers. And, there is no compelling reason it needs to be, given that the average home internet speed is WAY too slow to care about that sort of data rate. Most folks are also not running home media servers either.

No. What LiFi is really intended for is office space.
There are a few new LiFi enabled industrial systems that can be powered by LAN cables. This means that the contractor need to only pull the LAN cable, which is far cheaper than running electrical lines. Not to mention, you don't even need a qualified electrician to do it.

So, once you have installed the LiFi lights over the work stations, you have light AND very high speed data. Better still is the built in security.
At my company, we do have wireless, but it is fire-walled to our internal servers since we have a reasonable chance for industrial snooping. With LiFi we could have wireless within the confines of our office area and team meeting rooms with zero leakage and no chance for people in the next room to latch on to the signal.
Then, when it's quitting time, turn off the lights and no more connection.

Without everyone complying to the same standard AND actually testing the products against said standards, the technology will never take off.

Take Bluetooth for example. In the early days, the BT SIG made folks test the physical layers of the device, but not the profiles. As such, the link layer was great, but using the products sucked. Then they started testing the profile stack as well and things got better.
Now, through the use a free tool, (for members) you can test all the profiles you implement and behold...a working duhicky!

At the moment, there are several firms pushing their own platforms with respect to the IoT and none of these things interact with things from other companies.

  13. Re:Does not really matter. on Cell Phone Radiation Emission Tests Assume Use of Belt Clip · · Score: 2

    Actually, it does matter.
You will find that often times the belt clip gives a higher power density measurement than direct contact, This is normally down to two factors.
The wavelength of the band and the fact that most clips have a metal spring. This spring can have a coupling affect and change the radiation pattern of the phone.

  14. Re:..and so? (too many WATTS) on Cell Phone Radiation Emission Tests Assume Use of Belt Clip · · Score: 4, Informative

Actually, there should not be any phones transmitting at 3 watts.
The highest in the US is GSM in the 850 MHz band. That is 2 watts, or 33 dBm.
Of course, nowadays most phones are using either UMTS or LTE.

So, in the same band, or any band for that matter will have a maximum output power of 24 dBm or 251 mW. Of course, by law you can transmit up to 7 Watts in some bands, but the networks do not allow for these high power class devices, so 24 dBm is the highest you will see as a consumer.

  15. Re:warm phone on Cell Phone Radiation Emission Tests Assume Use of Belt Clip · · Score: 1

    Wrong!
You cannot "boost the radio" to get better reception. Reception is a function of the receiver and not one of output power. This is dictated by the gain of the antenna and receiver sensitivity. Depending on the band in use, that would be around -103 dBm TIS (Total Isotropic sensitivity).

Of course, this is an average in free space measured in a sphere. There will certainly be angles at which the performance is poor relative to the peak sensitivity.

Is SAR testing performed in body worn configuration using the belt clip? Sure it is. It is also done and various angles.

It is also tested against the head. It is also tested with a 1-5 mm separation distance. It is also tested with direct contact, and against the head, and extremities.
SAR is tested in a lot of configurations. Belt clips are just one of them.
Also, the author of the article clearly does not understand waveforms.
Putting a phone in your pocket does NOT mean that your exposure is higher than when using a belt clip having an 8mm separation distance. In fact, it is very often the case that the slight separation yields a higher power density than direct contact. This is of course due to the wavelength of that particular frequency.
