I finally got everyone to understand, that even though it shows me gone/disconnected, that they can email me, or call if it is truly an urgent need.

I do ok with email since the communication is asynchronous, but with IM...someone is constantly wanting to chat about something, usually inane or something that could be solved by them if they gave it 5 extra seconds thought....and often it is multiple people at once.

Maybe I just don't multi-task well....but anyway, I find that for the most part, constant communication with IM, at least for tech work...kills my productivity and ability to concentrate and work.

On my 7 year old macbook pro, I think I used the SD card slot maybe 2 or 3 times total. Same goes for the ethernet jack. If your'e going to use it so infrequently, doesn't seem like a disaster to expect an adapter.

My 2011 MBP, is really more or less, my desktop I used for artsy stuff (photoshop, video, etc).

99% of the time, it sits on a vertical stand, hooked to a USB hub, and hardwired ethernet for good high speed networking (internet, NAS storeage/backups).

Until these articles, I didn't even realize my MBP ever *had* a SD card slot. I move my images and video via a card reader, as that I have CF cards from canon 5D3, sometimes SD, from that and my old zoom recorder, and I've even had the occasion to mess with microSD cards....

I like the reader, I'd think that trying to transfer such large files via wireless would take too much time...?

Just curious, when you need high speed network connections, how do you go about it without a wired ethernet connection?

While I can see the SD card slot not being that needed, I'm a bit hesitant to say I could do without the ethernet one...I use wireless when I have to, but I prefer wired when I can for speed and quality of signal.

If I'm on the road, I will bring it with me, but most of the time, it sits on its stand, hooked to a wacom tablet, 27" Dell monitor (U2711..was great in its day), and a buckling key IBM clone keyboard.....

C'mon.....people doing Uber aren't doing this for a living, it is a side gig to pick up some extra cash.

This regulation is a solution in search of a PROBLEM...these drivers don't seem to mind the set up. No one is holding a gun to someone's head to be a Uber contractor if they don't like the deal.

Geez people...if this mentality was prevelant n the past, we'd still have a viable buggy whip industry today.

It is their somewhat recent (as far as we know) turning of their sites inward and doing domestic spying that is what has gone wrong with them.

Unfortunately this version is only available in Win/Mac versions.

To get the linux version, you have to pay the Studio version which is $995.

I do hope to, in the somewhat near future, buy a Black Magic Design camera, perhaps the Ursa Mini, in which case I'd get the Resolve Studio version free with that...but until then, I don't need to pay for Resolve Studio, but if they had the Free version also available in Linux, I'd hop on that for sure..and build out a machine dedicated especially to that application alone, especially since it is becoming viable to edit video with it, and I could get off the FCPX train for awhile....

VMs are great for so many things, but anything that needs intensive interaction with hardware, especially the GPU....doesn't work so well with virtualization.
