The next president of the United States will face a cybercrisis within 100 days, predicts report from analysts at Forrester. The crisis could come as a result of hostile actions from another country or internal conflict over privacy and security legislation, said Forrester analyst Amy DeMartine, lead author of the firm's top cybersecurity risks for 2017 report, due to be made public Tuesday. From a report on CNBC:History grades a president's first 100 days as the mark of how their four-year term will unfold, so those early days are particularly precarious, said DeMartine. The new commander in chief will face pressure from foreign entities looking to embarrass them early on, just as U.S. government agencies jockey for position within the new administration, she said. Cyberwarfare between Russia and the U.S. will escalate, and the U.S. government will respond in 2017, said DeMartine. [...] Chinese government hacking will continue in 2017, despite a joint agreement not to conduct cybertheft of intellectual property. The massive U.S. Office of Personnel Management breach, which exposed the records of millions of U.S government workers, has strained diplomatic relations between the U.S. and China, since the U.S. believes Chinese spies carried out the attack. Countries like North Korea and Iran have been building capabilities for offensive purposes and will likely try to hack public and private databases, said DeMartine.

Hillary has shown herself to be a dab hand with computers, particularly email servers. She can fend of any cyberattack single handedly with her l33t hacking skills. She doesn't like to publicise it, but Hillary's online name is in fact Zero Cool. If Putin tries anything she'll turn the attack right back at him and be into the Kremlin servers in no time.

Neither Democrats nor Republicans thought that being even a little bit computer-savvy would be useful for the POTUS. This means that the decisions made by either will likely be either 100% trusted to aides, or made by "feel". Furthermore, both these candidates have expressed an interest in increased surveillance, weakened encryption, etc. Seriously, how do you think this'll play out?
What exactly is a cybercrisis? A ddos on a major dns server? Or is it a hack of the DOD? Or is it a hack of the DoJ and DHS?

and a secret drone-war werent enough to discredit the mere idea of American Exceptionalism(c), it appears as though the haggard burro of liberty and freedom can only be brought to its knees by a "cyber crisis," whatever the hell that could be.

On an off-topic note the guy on the stock image in the CNBC article is hacking what appears to be the Matrix with a sweatshirt hood over his head. Clearly the realism of stock images has gone too far.
Especially if it is a republican win. Considering the clowns running his IT show are still using defunct Win servers 2008 last I heard. The Russians reading all of Trump's correspondence since he decided to buy the presidency is a even more scary than Hillary's ongoing e-mail fiasco. But then again Trump may be smart enough to use BB secure when speaking to Tzar Putin so we might never know what is really going on behind the scenes though you can bet that the Russians are more up to speed than the CIA when it comes to Donald Inc!

I love these hysterics that are aimed at trying to get the Federal government to give some overhyped company a pile of cash. Right now if I check my server logs I will see at least 1000 "hack" attempts by stupid scripts trying to exploit old holes. Things like old IIS holes, being run against Linux servers. Then I will read where some "security" company will write a report saying that after they installed their crap software on some Fortune 500 company that they managed to "block" over 100 hack attempts.
The average dog walking wordpress site probably blocks that many every afternoon.
Will there be a cyber crisis someday. Yes. They are just playing the odds that it will happen in the first 100 so they can say, "Look how smart we are." plus they will no doubt point to one of the regular hacks that come out about every 100 days such as the Yahoo hack and say, "That is exactly what we warned you about, now give us bags of unaccountable cash."

During the Bush years (I believe it was the second term) that the US declared their intent that a cyber attack would be viewed as an act of war and could face retaliatory attacks up to and including kinetic responses to such attacks. Now this isn't obviously going to fall under routine script kiddy activity but specifically state sponsored hacking. It's interesting that Obama hasn't responded to the DNC and other hacks as they have been confirmed to be state sponsored attacks, maybe in an effort to draw the line at stuff that actually hurts people. Or more practically that their own hacks through the NSA would draw a similar response.
I'm not sure how I feel about it but I think we need to treat state sponsored hacking as acts of war if for no other reason than it would slow down the actions of the NSA and other state sponsored entities as well because of the repercussions. Responding in kind to these type of hacks would do much to encourage state sponsored entities to stay out of the game as it could quickly get out of hand and move to kinetic attacks. Russia tampering in US elections should be viewed as a threat to our democracy and an act of war deserving of retaliation.
