    This kid's reaction was not a rational reaction to the circumstance!! No one pulls a prank...and expects the recipient to off himself?!!?

    Often pranks and acts like this are cruel....but hey, the world is cruel, and you have to learn to live and deal with it. Killing yourself over something like this...is not the reaction you expect from a normally, mentally developed human being....

    If he had some reason to suspect the victim would take it badly, then YES. It speaks to the level of malice. And in this case, he would have to be a drooling moron to not realize it could go badly.

    Not really....I'd dare say 98% of people in this Ravi kids shoes would have NO idea this gay kid would off himself over this. That is just NOT a rational person's reaction to a bad prank gone wrong.

    If he broke a privacy law...that is ALL this kid should have been tried and punished for.....he didn't kill this kid....that is not a rational end to those events and it isn't his fault. Hell, this poor kid now will have scars and a record that will haunt HIM for the rest of his personal and private life.

    Suicide is a very SELFISH act....

    You seem to be living in the fantasy world that everyone is strong and should be able to take punishment.

    Survival of the fittest you know.

    If this hadn't driven him over the edge...something else would have.

    He just basically made extra sure he took himself out of the gene pool. It wasn't the other kid that metaphorically 'pulled the trigger'.

    Sad, but that's life....move on....try to grow a bit thicker skin...life is tough.

    The only way to have a society without discrimination is to treat everyone indiscriminately. That applies to the law, as well.

    Well, that's exactly what we have right? (UNless you are gay, black, female, illegal immigrant, legal migrant, minority....basically if you're not a white male it seems.).

    Seriously....we now are putting in laws that make murder worse if a white guy kills a black guy because he's black. It is much worse that if he killed another white guy for any other reason. WFT? A death is a death....? At least...it used to be?

    A few decades back...the rallying cry for the civil rights movement WAS for equality in all things. Nowdays...it is for a 'little' more equality if you are anything but a straight, white male.

    Precisely.

    What he did was wrong...but c'mon....everyone does stupid shit when they are in HS and college...and hell, even well into your 20's...especially men.

    Just because someone is so fragile, that they can't handle some embarrassment...and decides to off themselves, should in no way constitute a lengthy and harsh penalty for this young man.

    What he did, probably necessitates a fine,and some community services....I'm guessing he broke some sort of law for illegal video (I know that wasn't even against the law till not that long ago in the state of LA)...but that gay kids death is not on his hands at all.

    Embarrassing? Yes. Possibly open to civil suits (if said kid hadn't killed himself), Yes. But prison? No way.

    If this kid was so unstable that this act put him over the edge...who's to say what else could have done it...or what else was in addition to this that pushed him over the edge.

    Some people are weak, and prone to that type of behavior. That's life, but no reason to ruin this young man's life over nothing more than a bad choice of pranks gone wrong.

    That brings up an even bigger question.

    WTF would that guy get fucking MARRIED...the day AFTER he gets to be one of the wealthiest men in the US??!?!?

    Did he just instantly want to put half his shit in jeopardy of having to give it to some woman??

    Geez, with his fame and cash, he could bang different women all the time at the same time.....why settle for one, and on top of that...pretty much make himself liable to have to give half of it away when he gets divorced?

    It says this right is on a state level...not federal level, interesting....meaning it varies from state to state.

    It mentioned common law...but in LA here...I think we're still under Napoleonic law...so,not sure how that would work here.

    I'm also wondering...Say I take a picture of person "X" here in New Orleans. Person X is from Utah.

    Now..is the publicity laws mentioned..do them emanate for person X from the state of LA, or the state of UT?

    They can't sell what they don't have the rights to sell. Photos uploaded to Facebook can contain photos of other people's likeness - who may not even be users of Facebook. Commercial use of someone's likeness without their permission is not legal.

    Do you have any links to info confirming this? I was thinking with reference to say, walking through the French Quarter...taking pictures of interesting thing...or interesting people (and there are swarms of those!!)....what keeps you from selling those commercially to the stock photo sites?

    What law is it against? Federal? State? Local?

    I've read on the stock photo sites...they seem to 'recommend' you get a release form signed, but it didn't seem to be mandatory for all these sites?

    I'm wondering what laws allow you to own and license out your likeness while being observed and photographed in a public area?

    Do all of the paparazzi photogs manage to get signed releases from all those shots they take of celebrities while out and about? Even the ones showing them in a less than flattering fashion?

    Fox News (Though that has become an oxymoron, it is what they call themselves.) spent all morning trying to prop up the stock in the Valley/SF area. If this does not hint at how blatant the corruption is.. well, I can't even come up with an analogy to say how gullible you are.

    Can you describe exactly, how Fox News was "trying to prop up the stock"? What actions were they taking?

    I noticed that before the IPO, both on Fox New and their Business channel, that many if not most of their analysts were saying that FB was over valued on this IPO....that they just didn't earn enough to justify that IPO price.

    I try to scan and watch most all the major news channels, to get as clear a picture I can on the news with the different spins different networks put on it....but with respect to the FB IPO...they didn't seem to be trying to prop anything up, if anything I was hearing them say the opposite.

    Ok..haha...how bout "getting a little sunshine, and getting away from the keyboard to let your mind think/relax....and if nothing else, and excuse to get up and not sit on your ass all day....walk around a bit, and then there still is the social aspect of it.

    Rubbing elbows with the bosses while out there never hurts....and talking with other people in other groups, etc...

    I dunno.

    I keep seeing everyone talking about $9 and $14 watches....what's the deal, is everyone cheap, or broke?!?

    A watch is a piece of jewelry you wear every day...functional jewelry, but jewelry just the same. Guys don't generally get to wear as much 'bling' as women, so you need to make what you do wear, count.

    If you're not a broke college student...the grow up a bit, and spend a little cash and get something that is NICE, and makes you look more like an adult.

    If not just for women (and yes, the DO notice things like watches and shoes)...do it to look a little professional in your work....that matters too.

    Try to dress somewhat sharp, and develop those communication skills...it will often take you further than just sheer tech genius alone.

    I think I'd rather have two cigarettes than indulge in the mindless banality of Facebook.

    Same here....and with a smoke break, it gives me a great excuse to get up from my desk, step outside, get a bit of fresh air...and be sociable with all the other people out there on a smoke break.

    Neat way to get in on work gossip and hear things going on...lots of higher level people out there smoking too, and can overhear things they're saying.

    I've missed all that when I quit smoking for a month or so periodically.

    Strange but true...but Knoxville, TN had the record for quite awhile with most restaurants per capita in the States.

    For a small city, that place was LOADED with restaurants.

    I'll try to check out the chowhound for Houston tho...'cause my last times there over the past years..I saw virtually nothing but chain restaurants....ugh!

    The only problem there is that Big Macs are over 500 calories each, and high in sodium.

    Well, here's my thoughts on it....and much of it had to do when I was growing up.

    Eating McDonald's was kind of a treat really....I would get to eat there once, maybe twice a month tops.

    So, if you're doing a fast food burger trip once a month...I'd have to say doing 2x Big Macs isn't really gonna hurt you.

    That being said, I honestly can't remember the last time I ate at a McD's....has been at least 1-2 years...

    At our company we have Hindus, Muslems, Sikhs, and just your garden variety vegeterains and health nuts, and we typically all go out together.

    Never worked at a site that had and significant number of people of religious faith that prohibited them from eating most foods. I've never worked at a place where that was an issue...and I've worked a lot of Federal sites in the past too...which you would assume to be really diverse...but I've yet to run into someone that said they couldn't go eat somewhere due to religious reasons.

    Right now..I'm in New Orleans....where food itself *IS* the religion for most people.

    If you consider McDonalds a 'nice lunch' you need to enjoy more opportunities,.

    Far from it...I live in New Orleans, food central city.

    I can't honestly tell you the last time I ate at a McD's. I virutally never go to eat fast food, and if you live in NOLA proper, you actually don't even see many fast food joints. Most place you go to eat here, are locally owned establishments. My 'junk' food, treat is an oyster poboy and some sweet potato fries.

    It actually comes as a jolt to me, when I travel to other cities...Houston for example...I was just amazed to see row after row after row of strip malls as I traveled the highway...each one almost a mirror of the other one...each had nothing but chain restaurants...Applebee's, Olive Garden...etc.

    I guess I get spoiled here...and forget how many people have almost no nice local choices, just chain restaurants and fast food places.

    I can't remember the last time I ate at a chain restaurant either...now that I think about it. I'm actually kinda proud of that!!

    And yet the average US citizen has been "willing" to pay for a 200% increase in gasoline costs over recent years.

    Well, it isn't like most Americans have a choice in that...you pretty much 'have' to have a car to get around and function reasonably in this society. I don't even look at the price on the gas pump, it is just as much a basic need for my daily functioning as eating or drinking water is. No...I won't die immediately if I don't have gas to drive...but I will be in trouble eventually when I can't get to the store and back with food...and mostly, if I lose my job and cannot support myself...well....

    Gas and a car are just pretty much basic of life in the US, and you just pay what you have to to keep living and being productive.

    Because their friends who like burgers are also going there for lunch. The ability to placate the healthy eater or vegeterian in a lunch group has become vital to the lunch menu, particularly in urban business areas. If you don't have these items, you get Veto'd by one person out of six, and you lose the whole group to some place the one can settle for.

    Hmm..I dunno. In my experience, if you have one out of the 6 that is that fucking picky...then you rapidly become a group of '5' that can go anywhere to eat a nice lunch.

    I don't mind someone being a vegan, but they certainly aren't welcome to severely limit choices of restaurants for a nice work lunch outing. They're the outlier....let them deal with it.

    To be fair, McDonalds 'salads' are so laden with oil and sugar that it's difficult to class them as healthy choices...

    Err....I don't believe McD's salads come "pre-dressed"...it only gets full of oil and sugar if the person heaps on a dressing that is full of oil and sugar...?!?

    I think they do offer lighter salad dressing choices?
