"f the US had subsidized rail infrastructure as much as they subsidized roadways, we'd probably have good passenger rail from more suburbs to urban centers, as well as between cities. Unfortunately, we don't, because the US didn't subsidize that way."

Honest question from someone who has never lived around trains and having them actually used to go to/from work.

You get on a train in the suburbs (I'm guessing your wife drops you off, or you drive to train depot and park. Once you get to the 'city', how do you get to/from your work site? I'm quite sure the train doesn't drop you off anywhere near the front door of your office for most people, so, how do you get to and from work? If you try to walk..what happens when weather is bad?

To me, especially living in the climate I do, that is the greatest impediment to any type of mass transit to go to work daily. It would take me much longer to catch and switch busses all over town, to get to my work...not to mention that there is not a bus stop very near either my home or office. So, if I were to do this during the summer...I'd be a sweat soaked heap by the time I got there....and the travel time would be hours instead of the 10 min or so it takes me to get there on motorcycle or car (I drive quite fast), and on the route, a bicycle wouldn't cut it. What if you need to go to the gym or shop after work on the way home?? How do you live like that without a car...I just have a hard time seeing how you do that and have any resemblance to a normal life and life schedule.

They don't tell women that, of course.....doing that leads to NOT getting laid, which, of course, is the end goal for most interactions with women.

Once I learned how things really are, I've been much happier, felt freer in relationships, etc. I'm upfront on where I stand how I act and will act in the future in relationships. Learning how to actually hold back and be able to more easily 'let go', has helped me more in keeping women around and interested in me, than back when I would do 'anything' for her, and open up 100%, etc. You just get whacked mentally doing that shit, and frankly, women don't respect you. They may say they love you and you are the most important thing, but, you are not. Their financial stability and care of their kids will always outweigh you as their man.

It has been said that women have it made. They have half the money and ALL the pussy.

With the latter, they can get another many to replace you in no time at all. They may be more generally emotional creatures, but, they can turn it all off in a snap too. Guys seem to have the opposite problem, they take awhile to let the shields down, but, after they do...the pretty much lose it if their woman leaves them. That's why you so often see the obsessional behavior of a dumped guy. You rarely see that as much from the womans point of view.

Of course, there are always exceptions and outliers to the rule.

The trick is...as a guy, never let yourself totally go, and never trust them all the way. If you do, YOU lose the dominant role, and you are open to really getting fscked both emotionally, and financially.

It is only an 'image' thing, if you take this stuff out, and try to show/flaunt it in public so people can see you with it. I have some mac stuff, but people rarely see it. I use my computers at home. When I take out my iPod or shuffle...no one sees me using it at my desk at work, and at the gym, the shuffle is pretty hard to see clipped to the bottom of my shirt...I don't use the crappy white earphones that come with the thing...I use some higher ended Shure ones, but, no one knows what those are looking at them.

Sometimes, you DO get what you pay for. I prefer to get Polo button down dress shirts. Yes, they are expensive (actually I have access to a store discount which helps a LOT). I don't wear them because of the horsey on them, I find that they :

    A. They look good

    B. They LAST a long time.

That last part is important. I get many many wears out of the shirts without them fading or falling apart. I tend to run all my stuff to the laundry service, so I know that is rough on the clothes, and with ironing and heavy starch...well, it takes a good quality shirt to stand up to that.

I like to save money as much as anyone, but, I find some things need to be looked at over the long haul for value. Sometimes, the name brand that is more $$, IS the better value. I feel the same way about cookware. I save and spend money on All-Clad stainless steel cookware. Yes, a fry pan is over $100. But, it works better than most cheap stuff I've tried. And I will likely never need to buy another one the rest of my life. I like Wusthoff Trident knives....they are $$, but, again, they are quality and last forever.

Are these status symbol things? Not to me...no one ever really sees me use them or knows I do. I research and buy things I want that are the highest quality I can afford.
