That two year release cycle looks like a growing liability to Apple in the face of much faster moving competitors.

What the devil are you talking about? They release a new model every year. Given that contracts are 2 years, that will satisfy the majority of people as they typically do not buy smartphone off contract. The competitors release a new every few months but they are typically incremental updates most of which should be released as a software update rather than new hardware.

If you want to continue ridiculous update of hardware on the android side be my guest but where pray tell can one buy an Android handset with a 64bit processor, Motion chip and fingerprint sensor like the 5S? How long will it take for Android to catch up? 6months? A year? Longer?

I don't have a college degree. I was partially self taught and I had a year of technical college training. Some of my colleagues have masters degrees in computer science. College and University can equip individuals with valuable skills and provide useful experience, however, real world experience usually trumps all of that.

Would I have wanted to go to university? Yes, but sometimes life throws you a few curve balls and you have to find your own way. Employers respect motivated people and while completing a degree can represent a motivated individual with tenacity, it is not the only path.

Sorry, I am a fan of him and grateful he leaked only certain documents as opposed to Manning just dumping everything out into public, but stealing classified documents to leak is a bit different than the story we've been given as a true whistle-blower.

I think the type of information Snowden took was of a different sort. He stole information detailing the existence of spying programs, how they worked and their extent putting the programs themselves at risk whereas Manning stole and leaked operational information that potentially put lives at risk by exposing agents in the field and/or operational plans in the field.

What Snowden leaked so far embarrasses the government but is not "outing" anyone as an agent. This is more inline with what a whistleblower would usually talk about. He leaked the powerpoint slides as evidence of his claims.

Actually, prominent atheists like Daniel Dennett "believe in" free will (if such can be parsed for something like compatiblism). However if you are a Christian, you cannot, since in various points of the story of Moses' interactions with Pharaoh it is said that Yahweh 'hardens his heart' and makes him do things he otherwise would not. Oh and the cool part is Pharaoh is still blamed for these actions which a supposedly omnipotent divine force made him do, because it's totally the sock puppet's ethical culpability for what the puppeteer says and does. I can't wait to test that in court.

I think you misunderstood those passages. How's that worldly stuff working at filling that hole in your heart? Is it working or do you still feel hollow?

First read "The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice", by Christopher Hitchens, then come say how altruistic she was.

About atheist altruistic endeavors, you won't see many of them because: 1. the majority of atheists (myself included) are not organized in groups; 2. we don't publicize our good deeds in name of $DEITY, we don't publicize them at all.

Still, there are some atheist groups, such as the one in Austin, TX, that organizes these kinds of actions. You just have to look for it.

I think it is time for you to stop lying to yourself. Everyone and I mean every single person on this earth is born selfish. Toddlers are a perfect example of this. We have to be taught to share.

Given this, since you, by your own admission have no motivation to do selfless good to others, you are not going to bother. Every human activity is governed by motivations.

I am sorry but you just don't get it. Christianity, in a nutshell is about loving your neighbour as yourself. There is the loving god part but in terms of what christians are called to do for others, that is it.

I don't care how much self-delusional talk you might speak to yourself, every human has a hole in their heart. Many people try to fill that hole with money, possession, food, drink, drugs, sex, new experiences etc... but none of that works. Do you think I was born a christian? Do you think I never doubted or had to make a personal decision of faith? If you think your life is so completely unique and that nobody would get why you are you and why you are an atheist, go read the book of Ecclesiastes. The author of that book tried everything you could imagine. He indulged in all sorts of pleasures but in the end he realized that none of it filled that hole in his heart. No earthly possession or experience can. Once you let that sink in, go read the gospels. Maybe start with John.

This is trumped by hate speech laws, for example. It stands in all cases where it is not overridden for some reason thought reasonable by the legal system. So lawsuits can happen about anything, and will come to court as long as the plaintiff can convince the judge that the nullification of freedom of expression is reasonable in this instance.

Seems like in this case, they're trying to trump freedom of expression with libel/slander laws. Possible, but not likely in this case, and this is NOT the kind of publicity a hotel should be wanting to bring on itself.

Here is the thing of it. Hate speech laws are not about trumping anything but rather balancing out the rights of two different individuals and their rights. With hate speech, you are threatening the fundamental rights from section 1 which are life, liberty and security of person. This differs from the American version which is life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

If your life is being threatened then you cannot exercise the right to life or security of person effectively. This is a fundamental and important difference between the two systems. In Canada, you have to be able to feel "free" in order to be free and it focuses on individual security rather than security of the state or society.

If the Americans had the right to security of person, perhaps they would not have such a huge surveillance state.
