google doesn't buy pre-built machines they have been building costum machines from the very beginning. Although, with fab'n their own memory, i'm sure today they do a lot more. Google runs the cheapest most unreliable hardware you can find. It's in the software that they make up for the unreliable hardware. Though unreliable hardware is ok so long as you have staff to get the broken systems out and replaced with a new unreliable cheap ass system. When google started they used lego's to hold their costum built servers together
what about education in these third world countries? seems to me, everyone goes to school and then totally discounts it as soon as they get out. I think it's some kind of pychological defect that cauess us to all forget *how* we learned what we know to day. And as a result we then shit hits the fan because our president thinks god asked to go to war the first thing to get the axe -- thats right, its education. third world *america* here we come!!
I've been linux as my primary desktop for 2 years. Its been working great for me. I write my school papers with abiword, my presentations with open office impress and do all my coding with vim. gnome hardly ever crashes on me and when it does i can typically do one of two things: either login remotely and restart X or cntrl+alt+backspace. Then i can file a bug report and in most cases the problem is solved. Linux just requires patience and an understanding of what and how you plan to use a tool. I think what linus means is it won't be ready for a generic user for a little while longer...

you're mean. my point was i use bash instead of KDE cause both it and windows suffer from integration. I use gnome too which of course is far superior to either. But prefer simple bash.

I believe if you're a developper and not using linux/bsd your days are numbered in the dev world ms ides can't keep up with bash/vim hands down.

why use the installer just grab the archive and put it in your program files create a short cut wola you have a new browser.

i use bash but if i use a gui i'd use x cause its nice and light weight we clear now?

we have a "gui shell thingy" gnome and kde even x has one :)
they're pretty nice too i preferr the x flavor its quick and nimble
