Wow! Typically I don't respond to most comments like this; but I'm glad someone said it correctly. I've seen so many parents shelter their kids, and as soon as they go off to college, they become wild...
The stereotype about the "peacher's daughter" exists for a reason... Shelter someone their entire life and they're eventually going to want to break out of that shell! Give them the freedom they've earned, but don't be blind about it.
As it was already said once I'll repeat it again for emphasis: "Trust, but verify"
I just recently purchased the Motorola MPx220 with Cingular...
=-Sync? Check.
----It syncs with outlook for inbox, calender, ------contacts, and tasks.
=-Phone? Check.
----Duh? Quad-band too!
=-MP3 Player & Storage? Check.
----Holds a MiniSD card (which when you buy it - comes w/ a MiniSD to SD adapter. I just purchased a MiniSD at Fry's Electronics, 512mb, $60. Store MP3s, files, etc etc...
Plus - it's got a 1.2mp camera, IR, Bluetooth, HTML web browser and a ton more...
If you increased battery life to something ridiculous like 30+ hours, then it'd be amazing. Does all the PDA functions I need (calender, contacts & tasks), and it is an amazing phone...

Finally a phone that does what I need it to!
You aren't owed the right to be able to live a long way from work and be able to travel there in private transport cheaply.
What about when the cost of rent on an apartment anywhere near where I work, is more than my mortgage on the house that I currently own? And what about the situation that where I work, there really aren't a lot of houses to live in, it's all townhomes and apartments. Are you saying that I should pay more in rent, have to deal with stupid neighbors complianing about my music (parties, etc etc) and give up the land I own, to live closer to work? I think not... Especially when living further away is cheaper. Now legislation like this is trying to remove even that benefit of not living in the inner-city...
What about those of us who live in areas where public transportation is not an option, and the nearest set of places to work a --real-- job are roughly 15-25 miles away at least? I drive a much longer stretch of road, that on average, has fairly light traffic.
Why should I be forced to pay more for something I have little control over? My car gets 30+ mpg, isn't a hybrid, and I have to drive quite a ways to get anywhere (Gotta love GA Suburbia) - so again I ask - why should I - when faced with little other choice - be forced to pay more?

Not ALL of us in the USA are too stupid - you do have plenty of people like me who prefer to live on several acres of land and enjoy the peacefulness of knowing your nearest neighbor is 2+ acres away. I enjoy the value of privacy and being able to turn my stereo as loud as I damn well want without worrying about my neighbors in the apartment upstairs getting pissed off... And yet, driving, I can still get most anywhere I want within about 15-30 minutes... It would take me a helluva lot longer to walk there, and there is no public transportation out where I live because it's not an inner-city area.
Those of you in foreign countries (especailly Europeans) get very pissy about us Americans sitting in our traffic, etc etc - but you don't seem to realize - the majority of traffic (in Georgia at least) - is from people who do not live in the city and instead commute to the inner city to work.
Another thing to consider - if its the exact same 100 people - if they were happy then - why would they want to change now? These people could be those who do not need more than bare minimum for internet and/or cannot afford more.
Thus, the primary reason why in general statistics are useless. Too many outliers...
At the beginning - you said 150 k/s is equal to 960 kbps - and then at the end - you said that 1Mbps is equal to ~125 k/s... Now - how is that so? If 150 k/s is only equal to 960 kbps, then how is 125 k/s approximately equal to 1Mbps?
I'm not arguing my math might be wrong - but your logic seems to contradict itself within the same sentence...so please...by all means...explain that to me...heh
If you download at 120k/s then you're actually downloading at ROUGHLY 1200 kbps... Which is over the 1Mbps barried you refer to above. The part where you're getting confused is w/ Kilobit and Kilobyte, and likewise with Megabit and Megabyte...
A 1.5mbps line on can download at roughtly 150k/s.
And SnappyDSL *COFS.net* is releasing a 3Mbps DSL line *Yes - I did say DSL* in FL and w/in the next 3 months one in GA. So I don't think its that far away at all...
Thats true in its own right - however - I know plenty of teenage guys who just seriously lack the social skills to get out of their basement w/o a/LOT/ of outside work to get them there - nor do they have the physical ability to be successful in these sports. Then, they see those who are successful in these sports, but cannot even turn on a computer, and see that these sports-buffs, are the ones getting the dates...
Well, then they become bitter over time, and eventually, their bitterness turns into this "I'm better than you because I hate sports" attitude... So if these guys had dates to begin with, and girls didn't spend all their time wooing over the next big hunky quarterback to roll along, everyone would be happy...
Fear not geeks...your day is coming soon...the day when jocks are shunned, and geeks are worshipped...w00t!
As many have mentioned before me, FreeNET, in its days of glory, would've been perfect for something like this... However, as of late, among other services, it has fallen awry...
I personally think this is turning into a vicious cycle, much akin to the one found in the rotation of television broadcasting. In the late 80's, there were some quality shows on television... After the 5000th run-down of Power Rangers, or the 1000th joke about the purple Teletubbie, television is finally restoring some quality shows...
In the 1930's, life in the world was a trafic affair. That time it was because of financial issues. In the 1970's, life was well...we all know how life was in the 70's... Now, in the late 90's and early 2000's, we're experiencing the next cycle of hell on earth so to speak. Right now, we can still go down a lot further before the world realizes what is going on, and slowly begins its climb back to the days when waking up in the morning wasn't a burden.
However, as we are currently here now, we must deal with it as it comes.
I haven't RTFA yet, but if he bypassed some descryption algorithm designed by MicroSoft (No - I don't like them either - but thats not the point) then something should be done. However, the problem now lies in the extent of punishment which he would receive. In today's world, we've begun comparing "digital theft" as some like to call it, to armed robbery and murder. I know people who have been to jail for armed robbery, and many other violent crimes, who got off easier than someone caught hosting 1000 MP3s... It is a sad day when owning a copy of a song on your hard drive, or a copy of a book on your computer, becomes a crime punished to a greater extent than 'other' crimes...
No - there was a copyright on the definitions Webster used to define the words in the dictionary.
The words themselves are, in a strange way, public-domain. I can say any word I please, however, on a very very technical, and assinine level, Webster could possibly copyright the EXACT definition they provide in their dictionary, and thus require citation or reference if quoted directly.
This is very similar to the MT-32 situation in the fact that they are trying to claim copyright on something they can't. Their claim of a copyright on a sound producable naturally, would be akin to someone attempting to claim copyright on a dog's bark!
I'm losing ALL faith I have in ABIT lately...
I went through 3 ABIT NF7-S mobo's this year - trying to get my primary PC up and running again... So ya, I seriously would reccomend something OTHER than ABIT - their latest products have been the pits...good specs/features/etc...but CRAP reliability...
Back to the vid card topic - I've never had one die on me either...I've been an ATI customer since my Radeon 64mb DDR Vivo (aka the 7200 now)
I think its mainly Atlanta that has them right now...
I went to almost every Downtown Rocks concert from 99x this year, and the cops were riding them all the time - they look totally sweet and very effective!
