So, you have to insult myself and my wife. Since your posting as an Anonymous Coward, its logical to assume your one of these pimply faced high school dweeds who only have balls when they are sitting being a computer. Whats the matter, someone steal your lunch money again today?

I used to play Asheron's Call..... I would say that it was probably an addiction. Every new patch I scoured the land for new items and while they were valuable I would trade them in game.
Then one day, I found out about ebay. I took a look and saw that a particular piece of armor I had was selling for 300$ US. Having this piece of armor didn't really make or break the game for me. I could do without it so I decided to give ebay a whirl.
I sold the piece of armor for 300$US and at that moment decided if people are foolish enough to spend real money on virtual items, then it might as well be me taking their money. ;)
After I sold my first item I went to my wife and passed her a piece of paper. On it I had written a sequence of 1's and 0's. I asked her, "Would you pay 300$ US for that?" She looked at me kinda awkward and said, "No..." I told her someone just did. I laughed, she still looked at me awkwardly.
As far as i'm concerned, if someone has the disposible income and want to spend their money on this, go ahead. If I was paid a few bucks an hour to get some of the items I sold on ebay for 300$, then that person got a really good deal.

There are a number of conditions which have to be met in order for this poison pill to be activiated. The key one in this case is their stipulation that support for their products must continue for 2 years.

Oracle has said, however, that they will continue to support Peoplesofts existing applications for much longer than even Peoplesoft plans on supporting them.

So, in a nutshell, it appears that this poison pill won't be effective and Peoplesoft is just trying to scare its customers.

I agree with you w.r.t mysql. Its fine for little web applications, etc but the performance pales in comparision to commercial RDBMS. What I don't understand, is why postgreSQL isn't more popular.. The latest versions are just as stable as mySQL and has a host of features compared to mysql. The only thing I can see, from reading newsgroups, etc is that postgresql had some issues in the past but from what I understand they have been address. mysql is like the MS Access of the database world. Why is it so popular?

Chances are, you had to pay Oracle to fix a bug because you haven't upgraded or won't upgrade to a version in which it has been addressed. I've never heard of this happening with a supported version of Oracle.

I've been a DBA, specially Oracle for the past 6 years. During that time, i've supported dozens of small/medium/large/very large databases with countless applications accessing them. In my experience when Oracle crashed (which was rare) it was because: 1. User Error 2. Hardware Issues 3. Application Issues I honestly, can't remember the last time Oracle crashed on me because of a database specific issue. The problem is, users love to point blame on the database. I get calls almost everyday starting like, "I think there's something wrong with the database." But there rarely is. For some reason, databases are an easy target and the users/developers love to try and deflect blame. If the problem is elusive, they will keep pointing blame at the database until you do their work for them and prove otherwise. Sad fact is, some IT people are lazy and/or not smart enough to figure it out for themselves. All they succeed in doing is wasting my time.
