We've been told we're not allowed to officially sing Waltzing Matilda during the current Rugby World Cup (on here in Australia at the moment) as it's not our official anthem. So we will sing it twice as loud in protest!
I've not seen mad max around oz for some time, perhaps he got a job somewhere else.
Midnight Oil have recently retired and Men at Work must have joined a union... they are invisible.
Getting back to the thread...
Why would I pay AUD $2.00 for a.wma format from bigpond when I can get a $1.43 or less.mp3 format that is playable in the car, dvd player, portable player or computer - available from a wide range of sites. Okay, I have to pay for the bandwidth because it's not free if I go outside bigpond but it costs me 3 cents per MB (3 gig/$95 month ADSL) so most songs will cost an average of 9 cents + 1.43 = $1.52 and no hassle of conversion to mp3.
Now if there was a bit of competition to bring the price down to AUD$1.40 - 1.50 then it could have some potential.
I wonder whether there is a special reason for using the.wma format - DRM perhaps.
Following the IIS and SQL server worms, Exchange Server could be the next target. I predict this will happen within the next 6 months. The patches are probably out already but as per the last two worms, many Windows admins will fail to install the patches no matter how easy/difficult/risky they are to implement.
As email is the current "killer" app on the net for business, this will create the greatest amount of havoc that we've seen to date.
I called my Local MP and voiced my opposition to this draft bill. They advised it is a private bill - not a govt bill. I let them know of the potential impact on my customers who use cd's for legitimate backup purposes and I reminded them that my customers are their voters too! I also reminded them that years ago the High Court threw out the Blank Cassette tape "levy" which they determined was a tax not a levy.
Perhaps we can find a Reply paid address for Darryl Williams in the Attorney General Dept or to the Screenwriters or APRA and we can send them all our old data CD's! What a way to get rid of those useless AOL, Optus etc coasters (and at their cost)!
All/. ausies should make their local MP aware of this proposed illegal TAX.
no I think they just got the approval from gov to do it.
An update from down under ...
