    uh, no. As mentioned to the loser above, evolution is NOT theory. It is fact. We see bacteria evolve by picking up genes from other different bacteria. In particular, we see with anti-biotic resistance. That is the very definition of evolution. Not, if you say that evolution as applied to man is a theory, then yes, that is factual. But since we see it in bacteria (due to their short generational span), it is a fact, overall.

    And yet, CONgress, esp. communist-loving republican, are working hard to destroy private space. Instead, they want to push a new version of Ares V, which will be stopped in 2 years.
    In addition, at the height of the civil war, Abe lincoln was pushing railroads in the west. Ppl were upset, and asked him why. He told them that a great nation must accomplish multiple things, not just one thing. I believe that the same applies here. The money that we spend on doing Climate R&D is nominal. And to be honest, NASAs work on OCO is probably the single more important work that is happening on this.

    You post is also worthless. NASA has been pushing for multiple private human rated launchers, but CONgress is trying to block things. ANd carping about Climate boosted by that little amount is just plain petty.

    Actually, the shuttle was not originally a jobs program. But it became one. OTH, the SLS REALLY IS ONE. Thankfully, it will die within 2 years.

    We see evolution in bacteria and plants and animals all the time, and yet, idiots like you claim that this is theory. The original poster declared that US manned spaceflight was over, though only the shuttle is over. No wonder we have issues in the USA. Idiots deny what is plain as the nose on their face.

    You did miss the irony. The US manned spaceflight program continues. We are simply hitching rides with Russia the same way that we did after Columbia. While are no longer SOLELY in first in science and manufacturing, we still remain amongst the top. Our problem is that ppl skew the results, just like you did.

    Actually, only 2 of those are certain. DreamChaser, MPCV and CTS-100 all depend on gov. money. Right now, only Blue Origin and SpaceX are planning on continue putting in money to fly humans regardless of what CONgress does. Though to be fair, I suspect that Boeing would continue since Bigelow is pushing them hard.

    What you just describe is exactly the situation that we have had.
    With NASA pushing private space to take this on, we will move the knowledge into MULTIPLE companies that will keep moving forward. In fact, what is now going to happen is that SpaceX has massively one-uped ALL OF THE COMPANIES AND NATIONS in the world. What is going to happen is that UAL will be forced to create a new rocket, or lose possible launches. Even now, they have started work on a rocket idea for taking on the Ares V, now SLS as well as Falcon X. The SLS will be dead on the vine within 2 years when SpaceX announces that they are building Falcon X.

    Well, I have worked for more than a few Silicon valley companies, so not a big deal.

    Look, back in the early 60s, NASA was buying up all of their ICs. In addition, they were asking for various things to be developed, which SV did, and then sold to NASA. Basically, NASA did not do the R&D. What they did, was tell electronic companies what they needed and then became the first buyer of MANY items there. This was subsidization of Silicon valley for more than 8 years. And your company was just one of many. SV OWES its life to NASA.

    Instead, focus on ultra-caps and then have charging stations every so often that allows for FAST charges. For example, from stop to stop, a bus can pull up and charge in 10 seconds with enough power to go to the next 2-3 stops. With that approach, you can have a VERY lightweight, efficient, and CHEAP bus.

    Seriously, in the science arena the idea of the labs is to learn what was taught in a large lecture hall. That is when most learning occurs. So it has always made sense to have a lecturer separate from those who help with the class. Ideally, Khan should be revising his lectures based on feedback from the teachers.

    The other day, I was carping about the fact that I have to deal with some 7 different patents that were based on prior art. My point was that the reason why ALL OF THOSE patents were approved was that we had hired a number of foreigners (6 of those were chinese, and I did not know the 7th). At that time, I said that foreigners do not have prior art experience. Now, we see if over and over and over again. All of these issues here are about companies that are FULLY aware of prior art, but know that USPTO hired all of these foreigners that have ZERO PRIOR ART EXPERIENCE. NONE. NADA. ZIP. ZILCH. Why? Because there were foreign born and raised. They did not have access to our press, or items. etc.

    And I was called racists for it, by a european, no less.
    Until we get past idiots like that, and start hiring ppl WITH KNOWLEDGE and not just cheaply, we will continue to see our USPTO go down. BTW, one way around this, is to have older Americans with mechanical or electrical knowledge doing prior art reviews on these things. Yet, they will not.

    Ok, so Armadillo passed on their VTVL to NASA and both NASA and armadillo continues to enhance it. What will it gain them? A cargo lifter from earth to about 100 miles up. So, where can that go? To the moon and Mars. However, once there, they will need fuel. How to do it? From space. Originally, all the fuel will come from earth. Once time passes on, then it will come from lunar and martian surface. But not right away. So, auto re-fueling in space is useful for MANY things.

    Actually, one very likely use for this will be sending a VTVL cargo lifter to the moon as well as Mars. Then we simply send fuel as needed. Later, it will be from the local surfaces.

    This is cheap to do. Many experiments can be done and the software developed. Keep in mind that it is the FULLY DEBUGGED software that is worth a lot.
