Just about every normal OSS person has said that MS would do this. Hell, if you have a pedophile that has committed 100's of acts spread over 30 years and was caught multiple times, and still continues to do these acts, are you really going to leave your children with it just because it says that it will not attack your child? And yes, this analogy fits the situation.
Re-read what I wrote.
Here is a different wording of what I wrote:
Sending the goods to be made in countries like China who employ illegal means such as tying their money to ours or companies illegally hiring illegals, is a means of having to avoid doing automation.
The automation would actually give better results (i.e. lower cost goods) over the long haul, but would be harder to implement then doing the first two.
If America is going to bring back manufacturing and/or jobs, they have to stop BOTH.
Actually, illegal immigration were partially responsible for this. In particular, business have 2 ways to lower costs.
Lower your labor costs.
Lower your labor time.
These both compete against each other. One approach to lower the labor costs was done via illegals. And yes, it was illegal to do so. The other approach to lowering it is to send the work to places not long with lower labor costs, but that will fix their money to being artificially lower and will subsidize the work.
The other approach is to automate it. That is what the west, esp. America USED to do. Sadly, over the last decade, congress and the admin pushed tax laws to help ship jobs elsewhere, while the rest simply ignored companies hiring illegals.
If Obama takes action dealing with illegals AS WELL AS dealing with China's illegal actions and other nations that fix their money to ours, then perhaps we will get back our manufacturing.
If somebody comes in with insurance and ID, you treat them. If they do not have insurance or ID, then you call in ICE while you treat them. And depending on what country you are in, that is the standard, OR, they will simply refuse to treat you.
Nearly every country has a national ID. Now, America is larger than nearly all others, but there are good reasons to have a LIMITED use ID. In particular, for gov. benefits as well as jobs.
is that nearly all of the core tech that is used in plants today was developed in America. Likewise, even this one was mostly developed here back in the 60's. Terrapower is simply an update of an old oak ridge idea. Yet, this work will go Toshiba, rather than General Atomics, B&W, or other American companies.
Gates, have GA develop it. Or B&W who has been developing reactors since the 60's (they do all of the reactors for the Navy).
Because they are cheaper TODAY. That is about to change. Once production ramps up, the supersonic cruise missile will be cheaper. And of course, that is why America is skipping the supersonic and developing the hypersonics, as well as effective defenses against super and hypersonics. Now, we just need to keep China from stealing it.
Of course, it is amazing how fast lasers and mach 10 rail guns operate compared to these SUPER SUPER SLOW cruise missiles. Yes, compared to the rail gun, or the speed of light, anything that China can throw against BIG CARRIERS will within another 5 years will be protected by both lasers and railguns. And the railgun operates up to 500 km, and the laser at over 1000 km.
Finally, I would not worry about China buying one. They will have stolen the tech by now.
What makes you think that?
If the military is involved in a war on our soils, I EXPECT that they will use the drones that we currently have flying overhead (and yes, we do fly drones over America).
That only works when both sides seek that and cooperate. When one ties their money to the others, has trade barriers, dumps their products, and subsidizes, then it will fail badly for all.
Hmmm. I can see your point. BUT, the issue is, there is nobody else bidding for COTs-D. OSC will not do it, and it was not open to Boeing or L-Mart. As it is, I suspect that a new round of competition will be coming that will focus on heavy lifters. I would not be surprised to see 3 awards on that.
Hmmm. Yeah, I totally agree with the assessment of his ability to fly. All of the other investors will say no.
Actually, if he is smart, he will go SLOW on the BFR. What he really needs to do is focus on getting multiple endpoints developed. IOW, he will help push BA as quickly as possible. BA has done a poor job of Marketing themselves. They need help on that. For starters, they should be pushing to add a greenhouse unit, as well as replacement for CAM to the ISS. It is weird that they have not pushed these had and fast.
Musks next development after the 9 and 9 heavy, really should a tug/fuel depot. The ability to move sats, and perhaps a BA-sundancer around will be important.
Exactly. If there is water on the moon, it is actually cheaper for Bigelow to be there. I think that we will be heading there by 2020 (not necessarily with boots on the ground, but at least with a massive project underway that is designed to put a combination of private and public moon base there.
I would argue that NOW is a GREAT time to be an aerospace engineer. Look, we are about to get MULTIPLE companies with launch capability. We are about to get MULTIPLE space stations over the next 5 years. We are going to the moon before 2020. This is a GREAT TIME to be an engineer. There will be high growth assuming that the neo-cons do not destroy this. As it was, back in the mid 90's, they forced NASA to stop development of Shuttle C as well as a Direct type vehicle. They stopped Transhab (that is now BA). And of course, they stopped VASIMR (thankfully, NASA continued to fund it regardless of what the GD neo-cons wanted).
,
No, we are on the edge of a true space race explosion amongst the private companies similar to the net in 1992. Will we see a.com bubble? Most likely. But we will still see MANY MANY companies created and expansion of man to the stars.
I suspect that April 12th launch will be pushed hard, AF will give the go ahead, and NASA will award COTsD to SpaceX on the 15th at the Obama Florida meeting. I have to say that I HOPE that the meeting is useful. We need more information and IDEALLY, for Obama, or better yet, Bolden, to say that we going to the moon/mars.
Not for a LONG LONG time. Musk is IPOing Tesla and just wants to get out with his money form it. However, Solar City and SpaceX are going to be the two big winners for him. When this goes IPO, he will walk away with 10's (note the s) of billions or more on this.
Gut feeling says that it will not IPO for over another 3-5 years. In fact, I think that Solar City will be the next IPO. Solar City will probably generate a 100 million or so for him, which he will re-invest into SpaceX. That will combine with other private investment as well public grants/loans for building more. In fact, I am going to guess that the next investment will be a Tug/Fuel Depot. OTH, it may be the BFR, but I do not think so. The tug/fuel depot would allow him to send ppl/cargo around leo and on to the moon quickly.
While not certain about the bureaucracy reduction (I suspect that Bolden holds potential), think about NASA in the aeronauticals RD world. How much RD do they do? LOADS. They do it in conjunction with private companies, but still, they are the main RD ppl. And I think that once we have enough private space going to Space with Cargo and Humans, then we will see loads of cutting edge RD on going to the moon/mars/asteroids/etc.
I always laugh at this kind of garbage. It was neo-con reagan that ran 8 long years of deficits and ran up the debt like there was no tomorrow. It continued for 3 years with Poppa Bush, and Clinton that dropped it to basically balanced. That was followed by W making reagan look like an amateur. And yet, Obama trying to bail out the nation from all this neo-con spending and suddenly Obama is running the nation into the ground. Heck, I still see ppl claiming that it was Clinton and Carter, both of whom ran decent budgets.
Likewise, it was W and the neo-cons that passed one of the absolutely worst intrusions into American lives since FDR. The Patriot act has been shown to have very little to do with terrorism and has been instead applied to drugs from Latin America and even common criminals. Yet, it is cowards like yourselves that scream that Obama will do this. A good neo-con to the end.
I wonder when the republicans will take back their party. I hope soon.
Yes, it would be cheaper. It would also be EASY to pick that up and unable to adjust easily.
OTH, a SMALL SMALL crowbar sized rod with fins and a chip, will be undetectable. In addition, being able to send them one after another will allow a site to be decimated piece after piece. Such as taking out a nuclear sub base that is buried under ground. Or taking out a nuclear warhead manufacturing site.
Just about every normal OSS person has said that MS would do this. Hell, if you have a pedophile that has committed 100's of acts spread over 30 years and was caught multiple times, and still continues to do these acts, are you really going to leave your children with it just because it says that it will not attack your child? These were times that affected SOCIETY at large. What it will not be used for is SIMPLE issues, like murder, theft, illegal aliens, etc.
So, does that mean that we will not IMPORT from them? If so, Canada, Russia, North Korea, South Korea and AMERICA are the biggest.

THink that it can outdo a rail gun or a laser? Yeah, exactly. but that Russian supersonic cruise missile WILL be useful against China.
I understand that a lot of free virus are installed second on windows.
I believe that Google owns the patents on this approach.

You know, it really is too bad that our current focus is on Lithium ion batteries. It must make your drugs go up in costs.
