  1. Is the joke that this is a four-peat? on IPv4 Headers Investigated · · Score: -1, Redundant

This is the fourth time I have seen this story.

It is getting less and less funny.

  2. Re:How to get away with shit like M$FT on Microsoft's Overlooked Code Theft · · Score: 2, Informative

IANAL - but I don't think so. An LLC offers protection from civil liability, but not criminal.

I'm pretty sure that most felonies cannot be commited by an incorporated organization, but rather only by individuals. For example, what if an officer of a corporation were to commit murder under the auspices of his business? He would obviously tried as an individual. Along these same lines, remember that violating the DMCA is a criminal felony offense, aimed at indivudals.

  3. This could be very very bad on Best Buy Backs CD Copy Impairment · · Score: 1

All best buy has to do now is play up the CDs as being some sort of "Compact Disc+" ("Get your favorite albums, as well as a FREE copy of the album on MP3") and people will adopt it quickly. I'm guessing that only a very small percentage of us care about the actual loss of rights when it comes to copy protection - if best buy provides the teeming masses with a replacement, they'll eat it up.

  4. Re:What about Ogg Vorbis support? on eDigital MXP100 with Voice Control · · Score: 1

I have yet to see one - there was a rumor that somebody was going to release a jukebox with no advertising for it, but support in the firmware.

I don't think we'll see players for Ogg Vorbis until the people behind the format realize that they desperately need to change the name. Unfortunately, (ugh) marketing counts for quite a bit in the real world, and 'Ogg Vorbis' is a name only a geek could love.

  5. Cool technology on eDigital MXP100 with Voice Control · · Score: 1

Now all somebody has to do is link this with a domain-specific natural language parser, and put it in my car stereo (along with a decent amount of storage) and I'll pay any amount for it.

  6. what are they going to do now? on USA Busted Trying to Bug China's Presidential 767 · · Score: 1

Too bad the Chinese government can't find the people responsible for this and run them over with tanks.

  7. Re:Physically destroyed? on DirecTV's Secret War On Hackers · · Score: 1

It turns out that there's an area on the smart cards that is 'write once', kind of like an EPROM, which they probably wrote garbage into.

Brings up the image of a card smoking and slowing curling up inside your receiver, doesn't it?
