The thing is you're confusing Windows already set up for your hardware with Linux being installed on your computer. It's a common mistake for newbies.
We don't really blame you... you're used to having systems set up for you by HP or Compaq or Dell, and it all just works. Have you ever tried installing Windows just by itself, though? OEM copy, without all your hardware specific drivers? It takes a long time to google all the drivers, half the companies have since gone out of business or don't offer drivers online, all kinds of fun trying to figure out how to get things working.
My point is that you (and some sympathetic, clueless mods) have gotten your ill-informed comment modded up. Or perhaps it's well-informed, and you're just trolling...
Exactly. That's why I'm saying that deny root ssh logins is a good thing. It's not that it's insecure by the protocol, only that it's insecure by means of having a well-known, existing account that can have a dictionary attack against it.
In gaming... but gaming is a very niche market. This is talking about enterprise computing, where processors are still being pushed very hard. I don't think those are really factors because there are still many things you just throw more and more CPU's at to get 'em done.
Why do you say OS's? Linux installs fine on an SATA drive, and USB. Did you mean to say Windows and it's horrible, dependent on 3rd party support driver model?

In short: No
In long: No. It's GPL. That's the license you acquired it under, that's the license that you need to use it under. If they release a new version, it's perfectly within their right to not release it under the GPL. But what you can get now, it's GPL, use it as such. That's really all there is to it.
It's like people are jumping at shadows any more because of all these lawsuits and such... sheesh
Have you even read the GPL lately? Of course you can. Perl is GPL, Qt is GPL... life is good. You can use it, abuse it, and as long as you aren't trying to redistribute it without access to the source, then you're golden. Talk to a lawyer if this confuses you. Why lock it down when it's not necessary?
This ain't freakin' informative. He didn't RTFA about how the virus scanner is useful on Linux servers so they aren't a vector for spreading viruses.
Man, why do I get so bent out of shape? It's not like there aren't tons of twits who don't read the fine article and then mod as well as the people who don't read and then post. Get yer fresh groupthink hyperbole here! Uninformed opinions come free with it!
Way to RTFA. Or are you trolling?
It's stated in the article that it's not great playback, skips and a bit and such. It'll play, but it's not pretty. That's what happens when you have low-powered machines doing many things, they run out of resources.
Yes, because separatism is good, kids. Haven't you learned yet that even though people may not relate to you on your "level", that they still have things to teach you? You may be a very smart guy, but you don't know everything. Even about your chosen specialty. Perhaps you should take a page from Linus and just listen once in a while, rather than trying to be the guy that knows everything. If you'd open up to realizing that communication is usually better if it's bi-directional, you'd learn a lot.

Yeah, because no one runs their own mail servers. Wait, I do, and I know many people that have mail and web servers on cable and DSL connections. That's what the Internet is about, you know, being able to connect to other people any way you want.
That being said, some of the things we do is attempt a tit-for-tat connection to an email server... if someone tries to send us mail, we ask if they accept mail, and if so, there's a good chance that they've got a legit server. That cuts down on a ton of bad connections.
One of the guys here has code like that... it's a 10 year old code base, and he wasn't trained as a programmer in any real facility, so has absolutely no concept of maintainability or even commenting his code. Thousands of lines of spaghetti logic, and nary a useful comment, but tons of them like this:
// set time value
ProjectBase->Interactive->SetActiveTime(CurTime);
It's horrible trying to figure out where he's getting data from in some structures and why he puts stuff where he does. There's usually a reason, it's just never documented and always very arcane. As in, he can't even figure it out half the time. And then he tells me to just "look at the code" when I have questions about what I'm doing... it's enough to drive ya batty.
You know, you could tell him that many computers include an S-Video out that hooks up to many modern televisions, so he can watch it on the TV without having to dick with the tape.
But hey, he can do whatever makes him happy. At least it keeps him off the streets and away from the children.
Just doing application development on Windows is a bitch because of so many undocumented things. Just having the source available for Linux makes it a lot nicer in many cases. You can fix, or at least see the stuff that makes your driver/application go wonky.
You realize that that's kinda... you know, creepy? I'd look for someone slightly more emotionally balanced than that girl if I were you. But that's just experience talking.
It's not much, but Virtual Desktops are pretty easily added with this doohickey. It's rather spiffy. I don't use my mac much, but it'd be a bigger pain in the ass without that and expose (yes, I'm too lazy to get the accented character)

Why do you think AMD has it's memory controllers and the hypertransport stuff on-die? That keeps them from having to do as much work "feeding" the cores and so on. Remember kids, work smarter, not harder;)

root is also an account known to exist on every system, so it gets down to a dictionary attack, without having to guess a user name as well.

I just got a 128mb removable drive that plays mp3's and records audio for $35... that price point is rapidly approaching.
