If I buy an Xbox (actually considering one now), or ANYTHING else for that matter, I'll do what I wish with it. There's no intellectual rights here.

Hypothetical: I run myself to the store (or eBay) and buy myself an Xbox, it is now mine. All the chips, all the solder, all the plastic (green as it may be), and all the wires. I can do whatever the hell I want with them. These games they sell have somehow had a spell cast upon them saying that I can only duplicate them for backup purposes. But no matter -- I'm not really interested in them. I'm interested in what I can make *MY* new box do! And if it happens to be to load a favorite operating system on there (noting that it is indeed just an Intel box to begin with) then so be it.

Wow you're an idiot. Would you like a nice machine, with good performance, in a pretty nice lookin case (rip the MS tags off), for $200 (or less)?

Micros~1 lost mucho dinero per unit on these things, just to "embrace and extend". If we can just make them like any other computers around, they've failed, AND it's their fault. Which means some poor group has to have the full weight of Micros~1 thrust upon it.

I'm putting together an effort to run commercials to hopefully educate the people that aren't "in the know" about Microsoft. Probably won't be cheap, but as soon as I get a firm couple of story lines down, and pricing figured out, I'm planning on doing some fund raising.

    What do you all think?

It's not ALL Microsoft's fault, but they're definitely NOT in the clear. They make shitty software. That is a fact.

Let's expound on that. Let's say that Yugo's have shitty locks, and there's a well known "technique" that carjackers use to steal Yugo's, and YOU own a Yugo. There's a fix that you could have applied to your car to avert tragedy.

Your car gets stolen. It is your fault because you could have done something to stop that from happening. Still doesn't put Yugo in the clear from making shitty cars.

Heh, perhaps the most interesting point we can draw from this is the fact you (the royal you) decided to buy (use) a Yugo (Microsoft Product)

    Come on people,
The fact that someone can remotely install whatever the hell they want onto your computer is not THEIR fault. It's not even their responsibility. When you break it down to the most basic level, you go to a website and their server says, "Hello, here's your page, and you need this!" If your browser is an inferior one, it says "OK, sweet! Thanks so much!" How is that their problem?

I agree the coders responsible for these kinds of things are sick individuals, but money can buy anything these days.

It is ON YOU to use software YOU know about. YOU can't BLAME ANYONE but YOURSELF for using IE. I mean we're talking about a browser that had a bug where if you clicked the "back" button on the right (err wrong) page, you could format your hard disk. I put it to you (IE Users) that it is YOUR fault for getting "violated"!

What's the problem? When I talk about buying a computer, things like a sound card, ethernet card, etc. etc. come to mind.

I personally think, "Don't stop there!" If anyone has had the absolute pleasure (not) of buying a Dell recently, they bundle everything from OS to Norton Anti-Virus, to Photo-Editing Software, to friggin Works/Office!! Offer "none" and give a discount.
