  1. Re:Bill Gates once said...on OS/2's importance on The Most Incorrect Assumptions In Computing? · · Score: 1

I have an actual WAV file of Bill gates stating:

We believe that OS/2 is the operating system of the nineties.

For smart people it was. And contrary to continued rumours (and to paraphrase a famous quote): "The death of OS/2 is greatly exaggerated"

Right on the mark. I'm an American and I can say this is all correct. Of course most people don't even know what the constitution says so they have no idea that a standing US Army is not constitutional. The last war fought following the constitution in the raising of the army was the Civil War. And that was fought over something that wasn't even constitutional. No where does it say that once a state joins the union it must always remain in the union. Secession is not unconstitutional. The last war that was even fought for a legal constitutional reason might be WWII as we were directly attacked by a foreign power and war was declared by Congress, the only branch of government authorized to declare war by the constitution.

The problem is the constitution means nothing to the federal government. They walk all over the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th ammendments. They totally ignore the limitations in the 10th ammendment. I expect that the next ammendment to the constitution may be the final one; the one that makes all previous ammendments null and void. Think it can't happen? Read some history from Germany in 1920-1939 and then think again. Fascism happens when the pwer of the corporations exceeds the power of the governments. All we need is a supreme commander to finish it off. King George anyone?

Does anyone realize that with the recent Patriot Act 1 (overt) and Patriot Act 2 (covert) I could be investigated and arrested and held for a year without charge or trial as a "domestic terrorist" for putting the statement "The time has come for a revolution in this country" on my website? Yeah, hide your heads in the sand until they come for you. And someday they will.

As for me, give me liberty or give me death.

  3. Get out my tinfoil hat! on Fortune Magazine On Google Growing Up · · Score: 5, Interesting

I'm surprised that no one has pointed out a pattern I see here in these 100 incidents:

    000) About 2 months ago Microsoft executive Jim Allchin said condescendingly: "Google's a very nice system, but compared to my vision, it's pathetic."

    001) Microsoft may have offered to buy Google right before it is set to go public, but Google turns them down.

    010) Google changes it's program in an attempt to get better weighted results and gets bad press from business about it.

    011) Word "leaks out" that SCO may be planning to sue Google for not paying them the "license" tax.

    100) Fortune publishes a negative article about Google's management.

All this happens just as Google is about to offer it's IPO and just as M$ is starting it's own online search engine. Tons of negative press for Google, lots of praise for M$'s "forward thinking" on search technology. Coincidence? I think not...

  4. Monopolies and Fascism on MPAA, RIAA Seek Permanent Antitrust Exemption · · Score: 1

"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic State itself. That in it's essence, is Fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group or by any controlling private power." - Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Message proposing the Monopoly Investigation, 1938

So, no need for a new name for the type of government we are getting. It already has a name and that is Fascism. And don't forget that fascism, rabid nationalism and ethnocentrism usually all go hand in hand. Like when people call me anti-american or even terrorist for being against the invasion of Iraq.

What I need now is a nice person from Quebec to marry me so I can leave the USA. Montreal is my favorite place on earth!

  5. Why was nothing posted when M$ banned OS/2 VPC? on Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 Removes Linux Support · · Score: 1

When M$ purchased the rights to VPC from Connectix the writing was already on the wall for non-M$ op sys's. An outspoken and well-known OS/2 advocate immediately predicted that within 6 months M$ would pull the OS/2 version of VPC and others would follow. Right on schedule they did. Not only did they stop support for OS/2 they outright banned the sale of it as of 8/26/03 ( check this out for a message).

Of course I don't remember seeing anything posted at /. when that happened. But seeing the treatment that OS/2 has had from M$ for 12 years why should it surprise anyone when they do the same with *nix? I have to chuckle when I see such outrage and surprise among *nix geeks at M$ SOP when us OS/2 freaks have lived with this BS since 1991.

Oh, in case you don't know, the reports of the death of OS/2 have been greatly exaggerated...this eCS 1.1 system uptime is 0 days 16 hrs 43 mins and 47 secs.
