5-10 over? Going 20-30 over isn't wrong if you have a radar detector. Speed limits are wrong, I should be free to go as fast as I can so long as I'm not driving recklessly. But we use traffic cops to enforce these laws within reason; we don't have companies refusing to make cars that go faster than 70mph or have all sorts of insane technology in the car limiting the speed to whatever is posted- and similarly P2P programs shouldn't be shut down.

    - The targetting system will be off by varying amounts.

  3. Re:Hrmmm.. on The t68i Replacement is Here · · Score: 1

I use a T-Mobile phone at college in the Miami area, and coverage is great. I can usually hold a call while in an elevator. I travel to the other side of the state often, and the coverage is not so great. There's a T-Mobile tower at the end of alligator alley, and that's it for about 100 miles (but the entire alley is covered, which is weird since fort myers isn't). I live about 35 miles south of sarasota, which is shown as covered on the coverage map, but I can only get a signal at night, and at random times during the day, and even at these times is extremely weak (the good thing about digital with my phone is that conversations still sound fine at 0-1 bars on the signal strength meter). I'll be staying in that area all summer, so I've been looking at some external antennas. (from how ive described the coverage here, can anyone offer suggestions as to how many dBi in gain would be good?)
But otherwise, I'm happy with the service, and really like the idea of the great international coverage. Perhaps they will make a roaming deal with ATT, as my phone shows that its network is available in the area, but won't let me on.

  4. Merlin doesn't exist on AOL's Merlin Compromised? · · Score: 5, Interesting

According to the last AOL support rep I talked to on the phone. According to them, AOL has never had an exploit resulting in compromising member information. Incidently, I was calling to report an open exploit that resulted in my information being compromised. They told me it was impossible. I explained to them, in detail, how the exploit worked. Nope, apparently it was still impossible. So I asked to be put through to operations security (opssec). I was told it didn't exist. I even pointed out a page on their website that mentioned it. Nope, doesn't exist. Quite fed up with this robotic imbecile, I asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor (this is in the fraud department, by the way) explained that they were trained to deny that AOL had any flaws. Interesting. After realizing the supervisor also had no idea what they were talking about, I requested to be put through to opssec. Well, the supervisor at least acknowledged its existence, but refused to put me through, despite the fact that I had very important network security information. In so many words, I was told they didn't care that my information was compromised.
Soon after this, I cancelled my account. Not only did they charge me for 2 more months, but they charged me the dialup rate (I was BYOA). So I called them up, quite pissed off, and asked for the charges to be reversed. I was then told my account was still active. At this point, I explained to the incompetent billing employee how to use Merlin to pull the fraud record of the account termination. The charges were subsequently reversed.
My experience gives new meaning to the phrase "AOL sucks"

In Genesis, the word translated as "day" actually means "period of time." Puts a different spin on things. Evolution isn't even completely against the Bible and Creationism. Last time I checked, evolution doesn't do a great job of explaining how life came into existence, only how it developed. Theories as to how simple organic molecules organized themselves into self-replicating macromolecules don't enjoy as wide a base of scientific support as evolution.

  11. What an arbitrary bill... on Congress To Consider Age Limits On Violent Games · · Score: 5, Insightful

The entire age based system is completely arbitrary anyway. If I'm 17, I'm immature and shouldn't be allowed to play violent video games, but the day I turn 18 the maturity fairy visits me and I can realize I shouldn't actually go out and slaughter people? When I was playing violent games like Doom when I was 10, I knew full well there's a difference between games and life. More teenagers do than do not.
Obviously alot of adults still don't realize what should and shouldn't be done.
More credit should be given, by the time they're teenagers most kids aren't ignorant lumps of clay for the media to shape. Not only that, the fact that it's illegal will make it more appealing to some kids, as illegal acts encourage some adults. Oh, but that's right, all that matters to lawmakers is pleasing the extremely vocal minority group of negligent parents who think it's the governments job to raise our kids. Maybe if people raised their kids right they'd be less apt think video games are real.
Indirect influence on violent behavoir? Maybe. Studies haven't considered the 3rd variable problem. Are violent adults violent because they played video games, or did they play violent video games because other factors made them violent. TV is just as bad in terms of violence, but it's not illegal for kids to watch violent shows.
Welcome to the confused hypocrisy that is censorship.

Since most of the sites I wish to receive e-mail from are sites that don't spam me, this method has been successful in eliminating the vast majority of spam that I receive, down to only about 1 piece per day.
