Seriously, you take the actions of a small percentile of cops to represent the masses?

It's the actions of a small percentile of cops that ARE the problem. So what's your point? If you happen to be misfortunate enough to have a run-in with one of them, that's all that will matter. Not how many others or what the percentages are-- just that one cop. He'll be a 100% dick and will be busy fucking up your day. But you can console yourself as you're getting ass-raped by the four biker dudes with skull tattoos that it's really not that big a problem for everybody else.

  4. Fight fire with fire. on Verizon To Kill All Unlimited Data Plans · · Score: 5, Interesting

The simple solution is for everybody to start calling Verizon to inquire about data plans, get support for anything and everything-- and even just to find out how your favorite verizon person is getting along. Call now. Call often. In fact, don't stop calling. Call, call call. Choke their lines, make it hurt. Plus, I'd bet that it'd be a great idea to check out all their wonderful offerings on their web sites-- all of them-- a lot. Check your bill. Twice. Make sure you read it right. In fact, have your wife / coworker / friend / friend's mom / neighbor-down-the-street / heck, all of 'em read it twice just to make sure you didn't miss anything. You might also want to call their sales line to find out about all their great offerings and add-ons. I'll bet they have a *ton* of cool stuff you could buy. But I know it's hard to decide right away. In fact, you might have to really get them to explain it carefully with plenty of detail in order to fully grasp the sheer awesomeness of their products. In fact, you might even have to think about it some and then call back and ask them to explain anything you didn't completely get the first time. You could also call them to tell them what a wonderful job you think they're doing. I'm sure they don't hear that anywhere near enough. You could really brighten up some verizon employee's day by calling them up just to tell them. And you know, all of the verizon employees do a terrific job and I'd be willing to bet they'd ALL enjoy hearing your opinion! Plus you should also call their bosses to congratulate them. And send emails-- lots of emails. Calling isn't the only way to let them know what a superb job you think they're doing.

You know, with all their loyal, friendly customers and fanatical fans-- they just couldn't bear the thought of taking away their unlimited Internet...

Right, but the job of the TSA is NOT to keep us safe at airports, it's to condition us to accept "authority" and "authoritative demands"-- however unreasonable they may be-- without question. In order to reshape our society into someone's perverted, Hitler-esque dystopian wet dream. The problem, as so many here have bleated so many times in the past-- is that people are sheep-- easily led and easily distracted. The odds of enough of us being able to get it together long enough and well enough to muster up any meaningful resistance are pretty long.

Sure, and by the same token, if you buy a gun and shoot the cop, that's one less gun that can wind up back on the streets at the hands of the cop-- that cop, anyway. But how do you know that was her intention and not merely what she stated when she was caught. Even if she had a prepared statement in her purse saying "I'm buying rocks to help the children.", how do you know it isn't just an elaborate ruse she can play in the event that she gets caught buying crack? I mean, all this is simple-minded stuff. You're going out of your way to find silly "what ifs" to try and justify a weak position. If-- perhaps-- she was a journalist, with a hidden camera crew in-tow, and a written assignment plan, approval from her superiors, etc-- and doing an expose on just how easy it is to buy crack-- that *might* be different, and debatable... in front of the judge, assuming she were caught. But, if it were me, I'd still run her in just to make sure, since it's unusual behavior and something that probably warrants getting checked-out further.

If anybody was *actually* "thinking of the children", TV woudn't be pushing every sugar-coated substance known to mankind on kids and supermarkets wouldn't have candy stacked alongside every checkout lane. The penalty for speeding in a school zone or past a stopped school bus with the STOP sign out would be death, and the penalty for marketing alcohol and cigarettes to children would be slow castration followed by death by flogging with a limp noodle. Schools would be masterfully constructed and meticulously maintained and filled with current, relevant and up-to-date books, and the very best teachers receiving a rock star's pay. Families with children wouldn't have to work two, three or more jobs just to barely make ends meet and scrape by, and health insurance wouldn't cost a fucking fortune. School lunches would be healthy and not full of junk. The vending machines in the hallways would be full of milk and fruit juices instead of syrupy sweet coca colas and other sugary drinks. McDonald's would not be allowed anywhere near a school zone, much less opening a kiosk inside the cafeteria. Anyone caught selling drugs to a child or near a school would be summarily squished flat by a large steam roller.

But of course, nobody's *actually* "thinking of the children", but rather the power and residual monetary benefits they can grab by in their name.
