"How is it the anti-virus companies just conveniently happen to have the fix for the latest viruses?"

How about putting the FTC on to tracking something really important! Like items that contribute to corrupt government. Want to talk about a conflict of interest? Payola?
Have the FTC track lobbyist contributions to legislator's election campaigns.
Isn't it curios that Microsoft publishes the results of a study and it appears almost everyone accepts the results? Now how would Microsoft gain this insight unless somehow they were behind this activity?
