I'm not convinced that in theory they can do this in the UK either: but it happens at dealers. Sure, you might be able to fight it, but it may not be particularly easy. In the example of the broken seat rails, the dealer claimed that the increased performance had resulted in a higher load on the seat rails from the driver's bodyweight. Complete rubbish, obviously, but they still refused to fix it under warranty and made sure that the notes on the system for that car indicated this so no other dealers would touch it, either.
Other dealers offered the (unofficial) remap themselves as an option, and guaranteed that any warranty issues with the manufacturer would be eaten up by themselves in the event of a problem: they'd fix it and sort it out later with the manufacturer, in essence. In these days of car forums this got them the respect of the Skoda's biggest fans, and a big uptick in sales and servicing work. What goes around...

It's not just the IT industry: go to Mercedes and ask them for warranty support after you've fitted third party replacement parts. I personally know several people who's Skoda warranties have been voided after they've remapped the ECU: understandable if they were expecting warranty support after engine damage caused by a remap (which is highly unlikely) but they've had warranties turned down for failed seat mounting rails.
Large companies like charging you as much as they can - no surprise there.
I guess the critical thing is that you can afford to take the career break to study.
If you're struggling to get a decent job right now then it's likely that taking 3 years out to study is going to be financially difficult. In this situation, you really do want to be fairly sure that you'll get a return on the hardship you're going to go through.
"Surely your friends know that you can send to an e-mail address from their phone? They only need to type in the e-mail address instead of a phone number."
"I'll send it you as a picture message" - "um, no, I can't recieve them"
"OK: I'll bluetooth it to you" - "No, can't do that either".
...and watch, as the grey-haired Mom and Pop sitting next to you slowly rise, and as if a veil has been lifted from their eyes, slowly start to clap. As it builds momentum, more and more stand until all in the room are earnestly clapping, with shining eyes. OP looks round, nervously, looking for a comrade or at least some sign that he's not the only one with his point of view, finds none, and runs out muttering.
MMS is basic. Like *really* basic: SMS and WAP. See http://www.indianchild.com/mms_sms_gateway.htm for an explanation. No hardware requirements other than having a screen and audio to display low-quality media messages. This is why it's been in all GSM handsets made in the last 10 years or so.
And if production has an issue that can't be fixed due to poor documentation and an MIA developer, the responsibility for that falls on the PHB. This is why in the long run, no documentation = not finished.
As someone who has toured with a band (an unsigned one, but also spent time with some people who have been signed to a label) I can assure you at the bottom end it's hard to even break even. Transport, hotels (when you're lucky enough to have one), equipment maintenance, food - it all costs money, and it's very difficult to make a living out of it unless you have a reasonable size paying following, or are willing to play just covers to drunken people on a weekend in Australian-themed bars, or have very very very low standards of what "a living" is. It's hard and only the top tier (which is proportionally a very small percentage) of artists make a killing from touring.

Can I have a go on your new internet? I'm assuming you've not implemented any silly content filters...
Like everyone else on here feels, I'd imagine.

Doctor, could you have a look at the cat I have in this box? It's real sick. Either that, or it's fine.

Every alternate file system I've had to mount on Windows (Ext2, Truecrypt for examples) has required admin rights.

Great. Another one. And the content is "I just took a dump". What's your point?

Apple don't sell their own adaptor of this type, but Shure do, and many Apple stores carry it. http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/Accessories.7/Shure.44/MPA-3C/Shure_Music_iPhone_Adaptor__MPA-3C_.3097.html has an overview of it. They've used sensible cable length for it, too.
