The big problem is that everyone is so paranoid that M$ is going to "spy" on them through Windows Update, the first thing they do is disable auto update. Almost every machine I work on has auto update turned off, and then they scream bloody murder at Microsoft when something like this happens.
If you are going to disable auto update, AT LEAST subscribe to the MS security bulletins !
