Since you didn't give links I had to repeat your research. You can save your breath and inarguably prove your point by saying, "Look at these two links."

I think it breaks down like this:
    1. Bulbs can handle about 30240 (60 minutes * 24 hours * 7 days * 6 weeks / 2 minutes between toggles) power toggles.
    2. It would take 5 years of normal usage to see 30240 toggles. (We are just accepting this as a statistic.)
    3. Incandescent bulbs tend to be rated between 750 and 3000 hours based on http://genet.gelighting.com/LightProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=RESULTPAGE&CHANNEL=Consumer&FILTER=FT0010:General+Purpose_Standard&CATEGORY=Lamps_Incandescent_A-line_A19&CATEGORY=Lamps_Halogen_A-line_A19&BREADCRUMP=General+Purpose_Standard%23A19
    4. There are 8760 hours (24 * 365) in a year, and 43800 hours in 5 years.
    5. The bulb will burn out from its limited hour rating long before a normal user would damage it with toggles.

I think that makes sense. Does it to you?

Sorry but most people are not able to judge "same processor". You have to compare CPU Cache and bus speed. Without providing links you can't prove anything.

When I worked at Yahoo! I helped a coworker assemble a "white box" machine from NewEgg and he still couldn't get it below the price of the PowerMac G5 at the time. He really wanted to use some Linux video & photo software so I think he chose to wait it out. But I know that he was shocked at how hard it is to get hardware with more than big GHz going for it.

When I worked for Apple I used to regularly give people the numbers from the machine they wanted and tell them that if they could find it cheaper elsewhere let me know. No one ever did (let me know), but many of them ended up buying the Apple.

However, I haven't bought hardware since 1997. (Except for my MythTV and I went for lower power, quite hardware.) My hardware is always given to me by my employers/consulting gigs.

Despite all the hate levied on Apple and complaints of their hardware being too expensive, it's hard to find a better price on EQUIVALENT hardware. I have issued this challenge many times before and have rarely seen it accepted. And the response is always arguable at best.

Posts links to an Apple computer and a lower priced name brand machine with equal or better specs including processor cache and bus speed.

I've gone into detail on this before, but in short Apple only sells the latest technology. For each product grade they have 3 offerings. You see cheap Dell's because they continue to sell 5+ year old technology. If you want to save money on dated Apple technology hit a reseller like Small Dog.

Based on the amount of energy consumed turning on the bulb, they were able calculated how long the bulb would have to be turned off in order to make it worth the energy savings, i.e. "It's best to turn off the bulb if you are leaving the room for":
    • Incandescent: 0.36 seconds
    • CFL: 0.015 seconds
    • Halogen: .51 seconds
    • LED: 1.28 seconds
    • Fluorescent: 23.3 seconds
In other words, its almost always best to turn the bulb off. Even the 23 seconds for the fluorescent lights isn't very long, and the rest of the times are pretty much blinks of an eye.

Honestly, I would prefer it if the official support model was online Knowledge Bases and Forums. If you have the vendor feed valid official documentation to the community, and the community taking the role of finding mistakes, making clarifications, and helping each other through edge cases... This is the most effective system. Most community support short comings stem from the vendor's lack of acknowledgment.

I have T-Mobile and for the most part I really like them (in a least of all evils way). However, 5 years ago I had an issue where I got a new Nokia (3650) phone which had an email client. Cool! I could check and send email. Except for it did not employ outgoing mail server authentication. Meaning, it can only use "Open Relays". Well, I'm not going to turn my email server into an open relay, and no responsible person out their would either. So, it is necessary for the vendor providing the network connection to provide an outgoing (aka: SMTP) server. That way they know that who ever is using it is on their network and spammers can't use it. Well, I spent 16 hours over the course of 3 weeks trying to get someone who knew anything other than what was in the Customer Service Script Book. I never found anyone. Finally I saw that they support Microsoft PocketPC devices so I got a hold of some screen shots of the "Pocket Outlook" settings process. I then called and told them I needed to setup my Pocket PC. They walked me through the process and I pretended to be doing everything they told me. Then, at last, I get to say, "Now it's asking me for an SMTP server and a port number." And she immediately knew what to tell me. BECAUSE I FORCED HER TO READ THE RIGHT SCRIPT!!!

Technical support should not come from a [wireless phone, satellite, cable television] service provider. They should only provide support for the service which is their business to sell. But, they have all taken this stand of stripping us of freedom and selling it back to us in pieces. When they obfuscate, and encrypt (to protect their precious copyrights) they force us to come to them for needs that they are horrible at meeting. [1] The whole thing is a mess. Hopefully this will trickle down into other industries.

[1] If cable and satellite providers would allow us to consume their media with the device of our choosing they would be able to focus on their business. Instead we are force to use what ever crummy DVR they have, or choose a different provider. HD Television is the apocalypse of freedom. I finally got rid of my MythTV because HD is a disaster. Once you experience HD, nothing else will do. But, every provider does everything in their power to take away your freedom with HD. I can't spent the time to fight it anymore. Now I just download illegal HD recording from people who have the time to figure it out.

  16. Who are these people who use "support"? on Verizon Embraces Google's Android · · Score: 1

Do people actually do use "support"? Granted, I am an engineer and i don't think like most people. (As my wife has forced me to realize.) But I just can't believe that people call customer service for anything other than to complain about their bill or ask about new phones and plans. The only customer support calls I ever make are to the power company to tell them that my power is out again (happens at least once every other week), or to Comcast to tell them that the cable is out. On the Comcast calls I always spend a little extra time screaming about how I hate being treated like a criminal in that my DVR will not let me watch recordings off the hard drive if there is no cable connection. When you pay for a service, you basically have to deal with whatever garbage they give you as hardware. Why call and talk about it? You aren't going to change anything. Android, on the hand, will change things. You will be able to choose service providers on the merits of their service quality. You will also be able to buy the user experience (hardware & software) that suits you.
