Engineering is a good career. I worked out of school (degreed as a Mechanical Engineer) for a few years and then I got caught up (sucked into) the IT boom in late 90's and am now almost stuck in IT as a coder (read VB Punk). For me now, IT stinks. Long hours, and now low pay. The environment has changed so inexpensive foreign competition is being taken advantage of. The situation was different in the late 90's, where huge outrageous salaries were out there, etc. Well, I did not get in at the right time, and it has been interesting. It all reminds me of the stock market bubble...knew it was too good to be true, but hey everyone is doing it, right? I could make better pay, shorter hours, consistency in the work, etc in Engineering and I am working to GET BACK into Engineering. For all you young folks, stick with it and don't give up.
How is the gunsmithing thing working out for you? Do you work independently, or for someone? How much school did you have to do for this? Thanks.
Thanks. Hope it works out for you. I think it is a good long term choice....
