  1. 1st exploit found, don't usethe IGB on Eve Online Client Source Code Leaked · · Score: 1

There is already a code exploit that has been found in the code. The IGB allows the execution of files on the machine via click able links in the in game web browser. Potentially a very serious hole that could cause quite a few problems.

  2. Optical Rectennas on DARPA Awards $53 Million for Solar Power Research · · Score: 1

Why don't we switch to trying to develop optical rectennas. It seems to me that the only thing limiting there efficentcy is diode technology. We currently have diodes that can switch at 500 Thz. We only need to get into the 1000's of Thz to get into the optical realm.

This would allow for a much higher top theoretical efficentcy. Maybe around 90%+ and would be far cheaper to produce.

  3. Synergy of information... on Why Wall Street Wants Google to Fail · · Score: 1

Google will a very complete picture of what people are talking about at any given moment once Gmail goes up for the general public. They don't have to use your personal information but they can reduce it down stats about what stocks/markets people are talking about and their opinion of them. They could use this information from both the web and gmail to build probably the most accurate market prediction mechanism ever created. Perhaps that will be Google's new trick in the future.

  4. Why the moon and not closer to the sun? on Simcity Microwave Power by 2050? · · Score: 1

You could build an array closer to the sun and reap the benefit of a higher density of light. Assuming that current cells would scale linear to that intensity and they would survive the heat you could completely power the US from mercurys' orbit with ~3000KM of solar cells. Then you could use this energy to do hydrolysis or whatever you want to transport the energy. Another benefit would be a good energy base from which to make anti-hydrogen for fast interplanetary exploration. It would probably take a decent amount of time to get a return on the energy though. Since you would have to wait for a tanker of water to travel to the array and back. Maybe there is a way to focus a microwave beam enough from that distance without worrying about obstructions.

  5. The little known thing about auto black boxes is.. on Automakers and Crash Data Recorders · · Score: 1

They have a limited amount of memory. And each time the crash sensor goes off it records the data to the boxes memory. If it reaches the end of the memory it just wraps around to the beginning again. Thus if you just wack the sensor enough times it erases any useful data. It happens quite a bit in liability with the big 3 where the mechanic "accidentaly" hit the sensor several times.
