  1. More like an ENFP... on Uniquely Bright: Experiences and Tips? · · Score: 1
First off, sounds more like an ENFP to me. Especially the part about getting bored with things. I'm an ENFP, and I've had to learn through my life to get better at completing projects (when I finished writing a 570 book, I knew I was pretty much cured...)

As far as college and such, I found that going to a non-traditional college (Hampshire) where I could design my own degree and not take a lot of "required" courses was a big benefit. I took 5 courses in 4 years (including a year off when I worked at the MIT AI lab), and never looked back.

Once out, I looked for small companies where I could make my mark, and learn a lot and do a lot of different jobs. Being bright is good, but keeping your skill set sharp and pertinent is critical. If you are an ENFP, you'll find you don't like studying things in depth, which can be a liability since most companies value specialists over generalists. But the ones that recognize the value of a generalist will compensate you well for it.

  2. Try the Avaya Solution on A Wireless Network for a 4-Story Apt. Building? · · Score: 3, Informative

I just checked out the product for a magazine review I'm writing (checked out means I talked to the marketing reps). They have a cool distributed solution where you deploy $300 thin access points that do 802.11b/g all over the place (like one in every apartment, and run normal Cat5 wire back to a central switch that automatically configures the APs for best channel coverage/etc. Single point of configuration, saturation coverage, and they said a small installation could be done for $5,000. You can even put in the building plans into their software and it tells you where to put the APs.

As co-author of Struts Kick Start, I'd like to point out that the material in our book is current to Struts 1.1 beta 3 (which just released), with a few minor changes (some of which I instigated and implemented, such as the new action= parameter for html:link)

Both Kevin and I are committed to keeping the errata on www.strutskickstart.com up to date with the release as it heads toward final.
