They cite the possible uses as car systems and portable audio, but these aren't perfect listening environments. In either situation, background noise is going to effect the sound quality anyway. They don't tell what bitrate they're improving the quality at, either. This may just be a way of trying to fill in the gaps at 128kbps or some other low bitrate, where a higher bitrate MP3 would still sound better.
Some vibration would have to be transferred, unless you plan on building an interior case that'll float in whatever it is that you're using for sound deadening, and then the inner case'd be bumping up against the outer one. About the best thing that you could do is get a few cans of sound deadening foam(like they use with high-end car stereo installations) and put that between the inner and outer layers of case.
Standard CD audio is 384kbps.(1:1 Compression) MiniDisc compression is 292kbps.(literature says 4:1 compression, but those numbers don't seem right) MP3 tops out at 320kbps.(I'm assuming the 10:1 compression is for 128kbps)
The PS2 may have 40-50 PS2 titles available, but it will also have hundreds of PS1 games that will be playable. From what I understand, the PS2 even improves the graphical quality of PS1 games.
Sony is going to have people buying PS2s just to see how good Tekken 1 looks.
True, but the Pocketstation doesn't exactly run using the PSX memory cards, it's a memory card with a 1-inch or so black and white LCD on the front and a battery thrown in somewhere, essentially a Tamagotchi that plugs into your PSX.
The article lists that the LCD screen on which to play the games will be sold separately. When I first saw the headline, I thought that Sony had rigged up some sort of actual handheld system. The technology's there, and they've already got an established market base.
It's just too bad that they gave Solid Snake a mullet in the new game.
It's actually from when they were on the zeppelin.

Whoops, sorry, was looking at the MPEG-1 compression. Don't know how that ended up there in my notes.

It'll only get 128kbps, which may be good for the masses, but it's nowhere near the 320kbps you can get with MP3.

Found my copy at a Suncoast...been a few years, though. They could probably special order it for you. Hell, any video store probably could.
