  1. What's wrong with saving some money? on Senator Calls on NASA to Service Hubble · · Score: 1

Why could the response not be something like this?

"Since you indicate you can comply with our orders to do a competent job of planning for the servicing mission at a cost only $175 million, please return the extra $116 million so that we can reduce the deficit. Thanks, your boss".

If my firewall can figure out how to track it, so could their firewall that is doing the blocking.

  3. Not Content Based on Vonage's CEO Says VoIP Blocking Is 'Censorship' · · Score: 2, Insightful

Censorship is blocking somthing based on its content. Blocking calls that contained foul language would be censorship. Blocking ALL voip calls is not censorship.

It may be anti-competitive behavior, it may put their common-carrier status at risk and it sounds like improper behavior, but it is not censorship.

  4. Basement Ceiling on Electronic Gadget Ideas for a New House? · · Score: 1

If you have a basemenent and finish it, put in a hanging ceiling. It solves all sorts of 1st floor problems, such as adding electric or data outlets, moving plumbing around and (in my case) installing a wireless dog fence surrounding the kitchen.

  5. Re:Posting as AC affects Karma? on More Moderation Madness · · Score: 1

Implementing this would require that Rob remember the real username associated with AC postings. If you are worried about court orders revealing the owner of an AC posting, you may want the answer of your question to be "no". BTW, I do not know the correct answer to your question.

  6. Encourage good moderation. on On the Subject of Trolls · · Score: 1

I think that one of the most important goals for the comment section should be to encourage people to contribute particularly good comments as well as encouraging moderators to hilite these comments. To accomplish these goals, it might be effective to offer a reward in a uniquely /. way.

My idea is as follows... When an article achieves a score of 5, the moderators are given their moderation point back. Additionally, if the author has a "good enough" karma, the author also gets a moderation point. To prevent abuse, it may be necessary to not give the final moderator his/her point back.

BTW, I also like the idea of the letting posters preset the score to any value beneath or equal to their current score.
