  1. BACKUP??? on Tiny PPC Motherboards · · Score: 1

Uh... Well... You may want to take it off to take a bath? It could be made waterproof though...

Every system needs a backup... right? :))

  2. ARM on Tiny PPC Motherboards · · Score: 1

How about a computer that runs off of body heat with a watch battery for backup?

They could also have you wear a propeller on your head or use a small solar panel on top of your hat! :)

    This is majorly cool. :))

Where did you hear about a 200Mhz bus? Please post a URL. I've got a K6-2 300Mhz on a 100Mhz bus and it screams along at 599.65 Bogomips... schwwwwing!

    PS... I hope you're right! :)

Put it together with a couple quarter size IBM Harddrives and you may have a good control system for a battlebot. HEHEHEhehehe...

They should also consider using an ARM processor...

As nice as it is to have articles about Linus by Linux people, it's even more enjoyable to get the opinions and views of those currently outside the Linux core crowd. It gives one a view of a different perspective; quite refreshing.

  7. Celerons going Socket7? on New Intel Celerons · · Score: 1

I'm not sure how accurate this assertion may be but... I heard it from a tech at one of the big Retail chains. To wit: The Celeron is going to cease to be available in it's current configuration and will go to Socket7. Oh, and they are seeking to get rid of overclocking too.

Mind you, this is just a rumor but it is from a fairly reliable source.

If this is true then it means that Intel is trying to retain Slot1 space for the PII only and capture some of AMD's market in the socket7 space by moving the Celeron there. Such and action would kill two birds with one stone... or is it kill one bird with two stones... Oh well, you get my meaning. :)

I guess I'll be sticking with AMD until Intel changes thier tune...

  8. Spencer Katt... on Compaq Handheld Linux · · Score: 1

is always good for a chuckle and his editorials and cartoons are trendy. The itsy article was interesting in that it showed that Linux warrants attention from the big OEM's.

Check out the cartoons too. Especially the one regarding ARMONK. HEHEhehe... Is the Katt psychic?

  10. Yeah on Name that probe! And 3 more years of duty for Mir · · Score: 1

I agree that decommissioning the MIR is a bad idea. Heck, it costs alot of money to get that amount of hardware into orbit. At the very least, the MIR's modules could be used as a subsidiary part of ISS or as a liferaft for the ISS.

Some may say that using the MIR modules would require significant reworking - true. It would also give us valuable experience in space construction. I'm also in favor of using spent main feul tanks from the shuttle to make section of usable material for station parts. We could use them as raw material for a factory in space.
