  1. Duh? on Traditional Radio Endangered By New Tech · · Score: 1

I'm not sure about anyone else, but when I got my iPod I pretty much stopped listening to the radio at all. The main reason why? No ads, and I can pick the music I want. Satellite radio fixes half the problem, but there is still the issue of choice. With a la carte music subscription services priced at about the same as satellite radio, is satellite radio a viable product in the long run, or just the last gasp of an old distribution paradigm?

  2. Re:Quit wondering and drop the label! on NYT Opinion Piece on DRM And P2P · · Score: 1

Wired just put out an interesting article in the last issue on how bands who are using myspace as a principal means of publicity are doing pretty well. Even without a major label record contract. Many bands choose to post a couple songs for free, then link to where you can purchase the full album. And all the proceeds go to them. Funny thing is, an increasing source of income is band schwag and concert paraphenalia. I bet in a couple more years as online distribution matures, more and more bands will hit it big without major label support.

  3. Problem with the courts not the EFF? on EFF Has Outlived Its Usefulness? · · Score: 1

This article seems to miss the point that the EFF is not deciding these cases - judges are, based on laws enacted by congress. So what if they loose? I could argue that I was right in killing someone, but that doesn't mean I will win if it is against the law. My argument could be sound, as in I didn't like that person, but regardless of what I think or how well I argue, it is still illegal. I think the EFF deserves kudos for making the most of a legal system that is hostile to their point of view.
