Caffeine also has the effect of reducing insulin sensitivity by up to 15% , continually being in a state of reduced insulin sensitivity can lead to diabetes. I sometimes wonder if my own rapid adult onset of type 1 diabetes is due to the fact that my College Years were basically just an IV Drip feed of mountain dew and Coffee.
I do suspect that the store is actually paying more that $2 for the product and using it as a loss leader
Yup-you are correct, for example in a small drug/department store , beer, milk, eggs, soda, and in wintry climes rock salt and washer fluid are loss leaders although the loss margin is not overwhelmingly large as the wharehouse usually buys these items by the trainload at a bulk discount. Unless your Walmart and buy the manufatures entire monthly production for a few cents above cost.
I believe that Columbia was the only shuttle in the fleet to have this "black box", it was used mainly during the inititial testing of Columbia. It records takeoff and landing data in addition to the live broadcast of telemetry. I'm answering this from memory so pardon any errors -- If I get a chance Ill try to dig up the articles I read on this.
I used to wrok as an AS/400 operator but the only thing we had on TwinAx were the 2 Main Printers and 2 Green screens, everything else was CLient Access over Ehternet, Im suprised that the TwinAx is still such a big thing.
RPG is rough to get used to but so is any other platform/task optimized language. But the fact that here is never a problem does make it mind numbing, like you say they just run and Run and.......
> perhaps combining the idea of "home base" no matter where you are along with a personalized workspace would be something I'd like to have.
>>Not trolling here - sincerely curious - why?
I agree with you that it is extremely hard to break the notion that a computer is "mine" but as someone who travels for the company quite a bit I would love to see the "Visitors" cubes set up with something like this so that no matter what site,no matter where in the country I have uniform access to all the tools and such I need and not have to have IT install 20 things everytime I arive anywhere. Then again a Laptop would be nice...really Nice....
Because somehow the Government or some Large corporation ill get its paws on the money and more of our freedoms will be restricted. I already pay $40+ a month for internet access I don't wan't to pay more for emails whats next a charge on every instant message or slashdot post????
Because it is considered bad form to bash your leader when he needs the prayers and support of his people that he make the right decisions in a time of great trial. Whether we agree with him or not.
I was wondering if this would happen, with all the emphasis on the "Networked Warrior" where the Guy in the tent at the back of the line has a link to the webcam on the soldiers helmet watching what the soldier sees as he runs across the battle field and multiply this by X-hundred number of remote control reconnasance devices and forward observer type guys and the available military bandwith gets chewed up fast.
Of Course it could all jsut be a ploy to keep CNN's video phone coverage grainy;)
My company sells off all its old computers and donates all the proceeds to cancer research, which is really cool as I now have a nice array of 133MHz Gateways that heat the living room and drive my wife nuts although she can't complain as it never costs more than 10 bucks:)
What's the point of using a portable technology if you want it to run on un-improved Windows boxes?
I've run into this before...."because our 133mhz 500meg HDD win98 machines are just gonna have to wait to be upgraded, no one is complaining..." (Yeah, they didn't look at the help desk log book...but I digress). Its Same old thing...non technical people imposing technical requirements. In my case since all they wanted displayed was sales and other figures from the databases I was able to push a web based Solution that provided the data and generated the few charts and graphs dynamicaly with PHP.
dramatically less of a economic hit for retailers than you've been led to believe. They lose far more to employees taking stock home or skimming the tills
Actually "shrink" from both Employees and Regular Shoplifters can add up to 20% or more in a busy department store and you'd be suprised at just who is shoplifting anyone from 3 years old to the local repeat criminal to the Mayors wife. Although in some instances Employee theft is the bigger problem but I never understood how those high school punks who stole from the cash register right underneath the camera pointed right at them for there whole shift ever expected to get away with it....sigh the stupidity of our youth.
Having worked with the EAS tag systems in retail and also just worked in retail (stockboy/cashier/manager) I can tell you that if these companies could use these tags or RFIDS to track your every breath to build demographics they would!!! So we need to be careful with this, chain store executives have no morals when it comes to the almighty profit!
Very interesting take on the matter,, I work on a project that **almost** takes this stance, and it works pretty well. The project standard is C++ except for Ada and C reuse and its all glued together by a mryiad array of scripting languages. Basically the best languages for the job.
My last post for the day.... Use google and educate yourself Uncalled for..I am educated , I was not pushing either Creationism Or Evolution, My points were just that a) it takes Just as much faith to believe in God Creating the Earth as it does to believe that humans "evolved" from apes and b) human nature is to use science or any other means to prove ones own believe system or disprove anothers and in doing so get to the point of vehemently fighting over it with each other. It'l be interesting what science has to say 100 years from now as to the origins of our Universe...thanks for the discussion:)
the problem is that creationism is a religious belief and evolution is a science... I have to Disagree, Evolution is not a religion in the fact that it isn't tied to a Religous figure Like Christ or Budda and/or included as part of a religion's core documentation as to why we are here. But religion comes in many forms and there are people to whom science is their religion, because I believe that Evolution is a form of Naturalism. Evolution and Creation are BOTH theories, Evolution has been observed in nature the same could be said of Creation. Evolution is extolled as science, but when you get down to it it is still a belief of a mostly hypothetical model of or universe.
I also disagree with your statement It is as scientific as the laws of physics. as many of Evolution's theories don't even follow the laws of Thermodynamics.
But disagreement and multiple potential answers keep the search alive:)
I was Interested in the article until
"and that Charles Darwin was right and the Creationists are wrong. " There goes the objectivity of the study. I was Home Schooled and My Father was an ordained Minister and I had Creation vs. Evolution and Evolution vs. Creation beaten into me to-infinity-and-beyond. The only conclusion I ever came to is that neither side (Creation and Evolution) is able to objectively study this issue because when it boils down to the bare bottom, both Evolution and Creation are a belief systems , so unless the scientist believes neither (Highly unlikely) then the validity of statements such as shows that.... and that Charles Darwin was right is suspect. As a simulation engineer I know that there are times when multiple models fit the system and that sometimes taking the best of several models is the correct solution. But alas science and technology only serve to fuel the Holy Wars.
The project I am currently on has developers at 3 Sites(each 1500 miles or so from each other) working on different aspects of the project. One of these Sites has a very open minded Manager who stresses that even though the part being worked on by his people is only a small subsystem of the whole project, that no code is developed unless the design engineer has talked to the Guys from the Other Sites and made sure that interfaces are well Designed and Issues are worked out. One of the Other Sites takes the BB aproach and is severely locked in tunnel vision on the parts of the project that are in there ball court.
The Guys working under the better Manager consistantly deliver on time, with very few defects. On the Other hand the Guys locked in Tunnel Vision consistantly Deliver late due to the higher instance of defects.
There is a time and place for Limited BB type of programming but I believe it is bad programming to not at least Stick your head out of your Cube for a few minutes and see what is going on with the rest of the project.

Actually many of the more modern Vending machines do take the dollar coin, at least all the ones that are less than a year old in this building do.
Mostly older generations use the 50 cent pieces, its also a really good way to throw a high school aged cashier for a loop.
Try being Home Schooled, where your parents==your teachers........When your Father gets home he will see to it that you learn that long division....

How is this a troll? I was stating my opinion that I think there is a lot of room for abuse of a policy like this????

Plus the CO2 is from digested plant matter which is part of the ecocycle its not adding any additional CO2 to the Environment
Amen to that!
