  1. Which Version of RH? on Red Hat, Oracle to get Gov't Certification for Linux · · Score: 0

Maybe it was in the article and I missed it, but which version of RedHat are they trying to get certified? I have 7.3 on my computer and it works fine, but my friend has 8.0 and has been having a little trouble with it. Now, neither of us are linux experts, but I think it would be wise to go with the proven in action 7.3, unless I'm misunderstanding the certification proccess.

Yeah, my grandfather had a Yamaha 16x and it died after about 15 music cds. While it worked, it worked great, but it just didn't last.

My friend has a Sony Vaio with s-video output, and playing a dvd through that is almost as good as the signal from a normal dvd player. As far as I know, it will downsample any resolution you have it set at, so you don't have to mess up your desktop to watch something on the tv.

Which consoles do you have? I have GameCube and Ps2, and the loading times on the GameCube are a lot shorter than on ps2. I generally enjoy fooling around with my computer, but like you said, every once in a while it is nice to just put a disc in, push the power button, and have it work.

This mindless promotion of Linux is getting annoying. Despite what you may think, Linux isn't always the best solution for everything. I have both Linux and Windows XP on my computer for just that reason. No one operating system is perfect for every task. Linux may be better than Windows at staying up longer, but Windows is much easier to use for simple everyday tasks. The list of differences goes on forever...

I know about that, but the round cables work fine. I get the same transfer rates as I did with my old ribbon cables.

Another thing you can do to help cooling is use round IDE cables. I have my two hard drives on one, and it works perfectly. They allow for more airflow, and they are easier to handle while setting up a computer than ribbon cables.

I'm not complaining about the images not loading fast enough, I was just using that as an example of what a link from slashdot can do to a web server. Calm down....

If he's really worried about that, it shouldn't be too hard for him to modify the program so that if there are 5 denied entry attempts in a row, it'll do a total lock-out for 10-20 minutes. imho, timed lockouts are the best way to defend against brute-force hacking.

I agree, that page and all the images took about 5 minutes to load on my computer, and I have cable modem. A simple, somewhat reliable solution for the present is to take advantage of google's page cache. Go to http://www.google.com and do a search for "cache:url_to_page" (without the quotes). True, it only gives you text, and not every page is cached in google, but google's servers are fast, and it can be of great help if the original page isn't loading at all.
