    Even if they follow through on this, I can't see it being more than an "on-call" type position. So if no mental patients come in speaking only Klingon, the county does not pay the translator (or perhaps they pay a small base fee). If you're looking to fix a budget problem, look elsewhere.

    Tennessee didn't vote for him because the Southeast has departed from the Democratic stronghold it used to be. Remember, they hadn't voted for him directly since about 1988.

    This isn't a security issue. This is a bug that crashes IE when a 5 year old writes HTML. They didn't deliberately not fix it, they just didn't know about it because no one had poked it this way.

    I had the same problem on our IE based system at work. The trick is to make sure the IE running the app never spawns a new window. Never use new window from that browser EVER. Always go to the start menu, and click IE. This will actually start a new IE process rather than a new window under the old process. Fixed my problem 100%.

    I'm not saying it's not IE's fault. But at least you can get some work done without being paranoid now.

    Me and a friend linked the hard drive to clarisworks, and vice versa. Oops! But it sure was a lot of fun watching them not nail us for it. They knew it was us, even had system logs, but the IT guy at the school was too stupid to know that my friend had a mac boot disk.

    The fact that Mobiles, PDAs and Laptops *can* cause interference has been widely known for a long time.

    Do you logically support this "fact" with:

    Anyone that has flown in the last 5 years will be familiar with the warning to turn off these devices on take off and landing.

    More likely scenario: A flight attendant saw a passenger using a cell phone and called the cabin. The pilot (or whoever came on the PA), decided to scare the guy (and all the other passengers) a bit.

    Whether a municipality is a town, village, city, etc. does not indicate the size. In many states, there is no legal difference between them.

    Dunno about your town, but here local government is really more of a joke. We had a dispute in town about a council member having a tree cut down by the DPW when it did not fall under the guidelines for what trees the DPW will remove for no charge. This dispute has gone on for years.

    Oh wait, you're right. Local government is like OSS!

    Operative word: Can. The cable company needs to have a dedication to providing the service they originally advertised. Currently, this does not seem to be the case in all areas.

    As the other replied pointed out...

    The parent to my post appeared to be saying that even conversions between close versions of Word (and only Word) cannot be done reliably. That is not true. I am most familiar with the 97 line and the 2000 line, and have gone between these products seamlessly. I assume to complete his "5" versions of Word, there may be an XP version, and perhaps a few Mac versions. Back when I was actually near macs (high school, 5 years ago), I also had no problems between the PC and Mac versions.

    I have no experience with internationalization and cannot comment on it.

    It's great that you standardized on OpenOffice. But your specific example includes software that is 8 years old. Do you think the OpenOffice of today will open an OO document 8 years from now? We'll see..

    At my highschool, there are about five versions of Office, all which save in different formats. Most people save as rich text just for compatability, because even the small releases or updates do not save in a compatible format for the older releases

    This just isn't true. I'm not even going to take the effort to refute it.

    I think not. If Bush had a problem with Ashcroft, he can fire him at any time. Note that he's already done this with his Treasury Secretary (yes, they will rarely admit they are fired and will resign). He doesn't need to wait for an election cycle to change cabinet members.

    I'm not a lawbreaker, so I live my life without having to fret about literal trivia; let the spooks peek at me, I couldn't care less. It's an attitude I recommend to all.

    Until they change the laws and suddenly, *poof*, you are a lawbreaker. Now who's worried?
