No, the EFF claims that's what the law implies to get you slashbots all worked up to raise money. However, it appears they're not getting enough donations from you guys because even someone with no formal law training can see that the bill does nothing close to what the EFF claims.
No. It appears that most people commenting have not read the bill. It does nothing like what you describe. It sets up a licensing system for distributors of digital content, not users. The licensing system would be analogous to the existing licensing system for other methods of distribution.
Apologists. Where were these people in 2000 and 2004 when Bush proclaimed the he was a "compassionate conservative"? Was the cry, "you're not a true conservative!" No. It was "AMEN!". Conservatives voted for this person, agreeing with his assertion that he was conservative. He is a conservative. Can't take it back now.
So yeah, you have to spend a little time customizing Linux, but at least you can do it, whereas for Windows you get what they decide looks nice to the eyes.
Instead, they all live in Washington, DC, go to the same parties, and rarely if ever come back to their states to find out what's really going on.
First off, a lot of them live in Virginia, and some live in Maryland. Second, most of them do go home for the weekend and recesses. Third, I'll posit that it is impossible to read and understand every bill that is passed by the Congress. Give it a try someday.
People who try to buck the system get sidelined. You only serve on committees at the pleasure of party leadership. Piss off the leadership and you'll be yanked from committees, and that is where most of the power lies in Congress.

"What do you do?" is one of the first questions asked after an introduction to another person.
Is this because we take pride in our work, or because we don't have anything else to talk about?
American Idol loves to say "That's more votes than the last election" or some other bullshit. What they conveniently leave out is that you're allowed to vote more than once for American Idol.
Note that this isn't an inherent right. It is a privilege that comes from the employment agreements that the unions have negotiated with the government. It does NOT come from the 8th amendment as you state in your parent post.
Bush amazingly manages to put phrases like "we can't let the terrorists change our way of life.. go shopping!" and "9/11 changed everything" in the same speech, and no one seems to notice.
Then I would look at similarities between those systems. Do they both run anti-virus or similar tools? What other apps are running the background, etc? Like I said, millions of people don't have this problem. While we cannot say for sure that it isn't an inherent problem with Word, it would seem that a problem with your systems is a much more likely cause.
I hit save and my machine locks on me for 5-10 seconds. Hangs, basically.
What are you doing, saving to floppy drive?
Look, if you're having that kind of issue and you just think it is normal for a modern computer, you're an idiot. Something is clearly wrong with your system somewhere.
97 doesn't have evaluate formula (came in XP iirc) and may not have solver (came in 2000?). Both are very useful tools. Also 2003 introduced "compare side by side" which is a trivial feature but can save a lot of hassle.
To me, in this context, zero-day has no meaning. It's used in the warez community to reference a download that is available the day the software is released (i.e., zero days after the release). You would also have 1-day, (n)-day, and in rare cases (negative)-day warez.
I can only guess that it means the worm uses a heretofore unknown exploit. Thus, this exploit is 'zero days' old.
I must say I admire Microsoft's savvy more each day in their EULA -- crafted to absolve Microsoft of any responsibility for bad things happening to users because of Microsoft's software. It must be reassuring to offer a product and not have to assume responsibility. What a unique privelege
You act like MS is the only company that does this. Nothing could be further from the truth.

iirc, you're both right. They knew it would settle a bit. However, the rate of settling has been higher than expected.
Great post.

Tell that to Jose Padilla.
God you liberals make me sick.
in New Jersey, they even established a seperate 800 number for people to complain to (866-4-SAFE-NJ I belief is the number).
Anyone care to guess which party controls New Jersey?

Uh, reality checking in..
Actually it was simoniker who wrote the blurb, but timothy should be shot for posting it in its current form.

Care to speak to the merits of MS' claims?
Try again.. this time with reality.
As pointed out in another thread, it's not Plainfield, NJ. Furthermore, your perception of the Plainfields is incorrect.
a student can basically walk into class and beat the crap out of his teacher and still not get expelled.
I call bullshit. Let's have a link to a news article.

Who modded this pile of strawman crap as 'insightful'?
