For those that do not like PDFs (I dont) here is the HTML version of those slides (in a somewhat compressed one page format):

I am also confused by the memory footprint, it does seem large. How come this comment (see parent) got modded down to -1 ? Historically there have been many discussions about mozillas memory hogging, but I cannot seem to find a good explanation or even a comparison to other browsers.
I like firebird but it does reserve alot of memory and it is not that fast on my machine, even IE seems faster (which is odd).
Any suggestions to info on this?
Thanks!

exactly. that this question even arises seems a Bad Thing.
hello?! look outside at the society we live in, and not just into the screen. if we are to change anything we need to be aware of how things work - some understanding of how the economy works - ie that simple statement made above should be in every slashdotters knowledgebase!
why does ms need to get into business foo?
why does company bar need to get into business foo?
growth. the demand of our stockmarkets. consumption. the requirement of our model of economy. opportunity. easy ways of growing.
(in simple terms, feel free to write a piece on it but I hardly think it necessary, there are loads of writings on our economy everywhere)
PS
sure, you could argue that oh, there are other things that company so-so can do. thats besider the point; most long term growth (ie strategic positioning comes into play) is the goal here. you could argue many things, yet the basic premise holds true, that is the basic drive/motivation/reason.
The reality is that there isn't much money in either PCs or OS and Application Development.
well said, that small company MSFT doesn't make any real money.
I must be missing the point...
Well, since SAP *is* working with Mysql (see previous post above) and SuSE - maybe that isn't too far off.
I think y'all should get real. Big companies play with big companies. That is by far the most important factor. The big companies I've worked tend to find a sense of security in that.
Right now, I would easily want to go with a nice replicated DB solution that isn't MS SQL Server/oracle for our ERP install (axapta). But that's not gonna happen AFAIK/AFAICS. (please differ on that!)
oracle is *getting* to be as bad as MS?
They have been ever so bad since the eighties! In fact, back then I think many would agree that oracle was worse piggies than MS!

firebird already has google a searchbar.

HAHAH! Now that is funny!!! Mod it up gawdammit!!
It means: ;)
"I did not read the post about SAP above" or
"SAP?" or
"WTF am I writing?"
Jesus, does anyone get this?

Yes but this is about a lower level, AFAICS.
Software always had it. User: "It'll *probably* work" "It *should* work" If hardware gets more, software needs less...
