  1. Apple uses GCC (The GPL: Intellectual Theft) on nForce2 GART Driver Finally Released For Linux · · Score: 1

Apple releases software that is not kicensed under the GPL. I think I trust Apples lawyers more than some Slashdot troll's lawyers

It would have the right effect because if enough people do this you and everyone else will be forced to dump SCO for a diffrent platform.

  3. Do you read books? on Plan9 is now Officially Open Source · · Score: 3, Offtopic

Most of the time you don't have the right to freely redistribute copyrighted material from books.

You don't want to accidently read a book for obvious reasons.

Uh no, being required to pay a licensing fee violates section 7 of the GPL. It would then be illegal for anyone to distribute the program at all.

I could come up with an encoding scheme that converts any binary file to XML and vice versa. XML is no more open than binary is.

Could you tell me were I can find the specification for the schema they are using?

Any content creator (Einstein) should have final say over intelectual property ("Space and Time" by Minkowski) that is derived from their work ("Electromagnetic Phenomena in a System Moving with any velocity less than that of Light").

Of course no good can come from allowing all school children in the world to freely download "Relativity: The Special and the General Theory" by Einstein. What are you some kind of communist?

  8. Me too on The End of the Free PCI Device List (Update) · · Score: 1

    To whomever this may concern

You have apparently decided to shut down the Free PCI Vendor and Device Lists run by Jim
Boemler. I'm shocked to say the least. This site provides an invaluable service to the
community. I guess I'll have to mail you guys the next time I'm having trouble identifying
a PCI(R) card and getting it to work with Linux and FreeBSD.

In the past when I have run into similar incidents with other companies I have just boycotted
their products and told my friends to do likewise. This situation is diffrent though since I
    cannot easily boycott you.

The only thing I can think of is to stay away from the newer PCI cards and only buy legacy
ones since these will have better hardware support.

PS. Right now I'm having trouble getting a Pinnacle PCTV Rave PCI card working under Linux.
Do you have any suggestions on how I would fix this?
