I hide everything behind a 233mhz classic pentium, 64mb ram and a quiet, 10 gig laptop hard drive. Runs linux 2.4.* with routing and iptables support enabled. It has handled loads above 2% for days at a time while I shoved Q3 servers through it. I max my connection out long before that system will ever die. Samba on the clean side to give my Windows boxen some company and ssh on the dirty side so I can maintain it while I'm away. The only time it gets shut off is when my UPS runs out of juice. As far as cost goes...I saved it from the trash.Ask people if they have an ugly old beige box sitting around their pad that they would like taken away. Then spend 40-60 bucks and buy two high quality NICs.
I surf during all weather condtions with just a 4mm fullsuit. It utilizes fluid sealed seams, blind-stiching and blind-zipper to limit flushing. Honestly, 55F with a decent wetsuit is actually quite comfortable, you don't overheat during excessive paddling. When it drops lower, the booties, gloves and sometimes 2nd layer come in.
I recently sustained a massive head injury. I passed out and fell backwards out of a chair. The impact cracked my skull causing a hemorrhage on my brain and blew out my eardrum. My brain to sloshed around in my skull, pulling on the nerves that run to my nose's olfactory receptors. The resulting condition has been quite the experience for me. I haven't completely lost my sense of smell however it has shifted drastically. Almost nothing smells the same to me now. The best way to describe it is that certain layers in an odor don't hit my brain so I smell only parts of the whole odor. The most difficult thing to deal with is that I can no longer smell the smells that trigger past memories that are scent driven. I can't smell cut grass and I can't smell the scent of a woman. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this type of nerve damage. I wonder if this type of treatment can help fix the damage to my nerves.
