IAAfA (I am an fMRI analyst)
Of course, the last highly publicized study that gave us a "face recognition area" of the brain turned out to be a crock. The same haemodynamic response came from birdwatchers seeing birds, or car experts seeing cars. It was a cognitive recognition area, not just a "face recognition area". I wouldn't be suprized if this experiment had the same falicies (article wasn't very precise).
Modularization: Great for OO programming, crappy for the human brain.
Well of course it's the same!
It's Greenspan's job to keep unemployment at constant rate.
Nobel prize-winning economist Milton Friedman based much of his work around the theory that low unemployment would lead to inflation. The lack of avaliable workers would force employers to pay better, which would lead to inflation.
He also argued that high unemployment would lead to crime and civil discontent.
I don't know if I agree, but the goverment sure does, so don't expect any change in unemployment figures other than those brought about by accounting. -js
While this seems like a good idea to get people thinking about the actions of our government, there is no way this will be aired on national television.
You have to remember that the major networks are all huge multinational corporate entities that can't afford to rock the boat. They have much greater concerns then just getting viewers (let alone enriching them). And there is far too much money at stake for them to risk enraging the Bush administration. -js
What's even weirder is, that before the groklaw post, www.sco.com was down, but ftp.sco.com (next IP address) was just fine, which invalidated SCO's claims of a DDoS attack.
But about 2 hours after the groklaw post, ftp.sco.com mysteriously went down too.
Just more ham handed FUD from Darl and friends.
While I respect everyone's opinion, you have missed two critical points about the payment of athletes.
One:If you think athletes are overpaid, you haven't paid attention to corporate structure recently.
CEO's of businesses which are losing money still get huge salaries, stock options and bonus packages. For losing money, for whoring our environment, for not caring about public health, these people get tens of millions of bodies. Two: Pro sports destroys your body Being a scientist is cooler than being an athlete, because, for one thing, you can still walk at 45. 70% or more of retired football players get debilitating arthritis. Countless other athletes retire and 10 years later can't even lift their children. Keep your money, I want to be able to hold my grandchild.
It's easy to bash those that are living what you perceive to be an easy life, but take all the factors into account first.
Sports and science have both done wonderful things for my development as a human being.
Finally, neither is easier than the other. One day it may be easier to go to the lab, the next it may be easier to go to the gym, depends on the day. -js
While this does help with the evasion of an acient protocol, it forgets one of the poster's main goals. The poster worried HTTP is slower... than FTP . SFTP is very slow considering the overhead each packet has because of encryption. -js
Beleive me, Michael Powell is the last person you want fighting for your freedom of expression. Michael Powell has been behind the Corporatization of news for 2 decades. He's repealed valuable laws preventing news monopolies, for example, he has allowed one company to control multiple outlets in cities. I.E. Murdoch controlling the LA news. Clear channel owes a lot to this bastard, he's no friend of mine. -js
A few years ago I was teaching an HTML class. The director wanted me to do a short segment on Frontpage. I tested some code in Frontpage, and found something interesting. Frontpage would move my Javascript code to below the Close Head tag. This wouldn't cause a problem in IE, but caused Netscape not to properly display the page. Even if you opened an already made page in Frontpage, it would move the code. Needless to say, I did not teach the section. -js
