the machine that did these animations, the Blue Horizon, is actually one of the top supercomputers (last i checked, 8th). basically a shit load of Power3 (may have since been upgraded to Power 4's). It currently lives at the San Diego Supercomputer Center.

"which in my opinion can be only properly understood in all its implications by an adult,"
I'm sorry, but i think you are missing something here. If I'm not mistaken, the Constitution was written by a large group of *adult* lawmakers, who wrote the document in hopes of protecting the freedoms of the peoples of the US, children included. Wether a child plays a game that allows them to *harmlessly* massacre moving pixels, or plays the Sesame street fun hour game is totally up to that child, or their parents, NOT the lawmakers of the US. The lawmakers job is to protect those rights, not remove them.
These violent games don't promote the outlash of physical violence in any way. If anything, they assist in preventing this. These games provide adolesents and children with an outlet for the anger and rage they feel. Often times this anger is rooted in pain their peers inflict on them, in such a case these games go as far as to prevent a physical retaliation. Like you mentioned, however, there are always exceptions to the "norm", there is always a select few who are deeply troubled, and simply will retaliate eventually. Though gaming is not the catalyst in this situation, rather the relentless torment by peers.
A rating system for games is already in place, but by the constitution, the rating system should not prevent the use of games, merely provide a means by which parents can descern questionable games from the sesame street play time hour.
"shoot-em-up" games such as the doom series, quake, wolfenstien, halflife, etc dont promote violent actions. If anything, these games promote the non-violent release of anger through harmless gaming. To prohibit the use of these games by adolesence is likely to be counter productive (in the sence that it will be removing an outlet for kids who are looking for a way to lash out without actually causing harm to people. The majority of people, including those "troubled" adolesent's, still have morals these days, and dont find it necessary to take the lives of others to simply release some anger. Too often these days, there are few other ways to release pent up rage, these games that lawmakers are trying to ban are often the only non-violent outlet for such a release.
Ok, is it just me or does anyone else realize that you could basically run ANYTHING on a mac now...
1-Native:
-OSX
-OS9 (dual boot goo)
2-Emulation
-Virtual PC
-Winshit
-x86 based *nix's
I'm sorry, but that's more than any other platform can do (that i've seen at least). The best i've seen is Linux running vmware and BasiliskII... and that's still only 68k emulation)
also remember, commonly* decoding is done by a seperate board, thus not putting the load on the CPU. This however is being done by the processor. *I am aware that there are software decoders, but for my "im smarter than you are" purposes, this just isn't convenient
Well, lets face it, blender's a bitch to learn. the UI plain out sucks. The only real decent UI i've seen for a linux modeler/renderer is Moonlight3d, which has all but died (not opensource, but based on opensource code. and there'r sounds of life commin from globfx, rumored to be the creators of moonlight3d)
You hit the nail right on the head, "popular" music sucks. Im a senior in highschool and listen to alot of the music from longer ago. For instance, Jethro Tull, The Who, CSNY, Tom Petty(well, he's still very much kickin)... but there is alot of really good music out there, maybe they're not as popular to the ditzy teeniebopper freaks, but they're there. STP (hell, most of the "grunge" movement), Dave Matthews, Sublime, Ani, Tracy Chapman, the list goes on. With the advent of technology that makes music more portable and transferable, music has become so limitless that people are free to listen to anything and everything the desire, as long as they're willing to click a few buttons or pay a few bucks. There's always going to be popular music, and often times, it will be shit. There will also always be great music that'll hit ya just right.
Sure, there're plenty of moron's using computers, that's their choice. Kids arent the problem, eliteists like you are. You shun anyone who lack a peice of knowledge... get over yourself. When you started out usin computers, you were just as much a moron as the next guy, but you (i assume) learned, and now have the knowledge. Instead of bein a damned commie about your knowledge, share it. Teach the kids what BIOS is, teach them why AOL bites, and get off the damn high horse
As an assignment in my computer class, groups of two to three were told to pick a specific market that uses computers, and to design (top to bottom, case and all) a machine tailored to that market. the final was to make a sales pitch to the teacher which included blueprints and specs presentation.
How can something like this even be considered? Beyond being simply wrong, it hinders the free speach and choice of the programer/coder and consumer. This is beyond pitiful
So what happens when you have more than one of these cards in a machine, do those cards have to fight for a higher priority? and would that consequentially make the host machine quite unstable hardware wise?
Why not make an AGP version of the card? sure, pci is nice, but realy fast pci is better. Of course, i have no clue if AGP can be used for anything other than graphics... anyone know? from what i see, you're using a 66mhz bus which would be fine for machines that are that slow, but if you have a 133mhz motherboard, theres gonna be some noticeable slowdown simply due to bus speed, not to mention software.
OK, we really dont want to hear your krap about how great Be is... This is a new OS, and as with most new OS's it takes time to develop and flourish into a quality solid OS (as im sure you're quite fimiliar w/ this concept, being a big Be supporter) sure, all OS's have their problems, but you gotta give people much more than a few months to solidify. As, i believe, OReily said, mimicking is the form of flattery in this "internet" age (or something to that e/affect) who cares if it "looks" like or is an "attempt to replicate" Be? You should only be so lucky that someone has recognized this model as a supperior or, for lack of a better word, good. So do us all a favor and can it.
I am normally one to bash Apple and the Mac platform, but i must say, this kicks ass, i think this is one of the final things that had to be done to win over many many skeptics/*nix users. Good job guys
How long will it be until it becomes illegal to mearly speak a single word in a conversation because some power hungry corperation thinks that they are above everyone and everything? Has m$ realized that they are in court for illegal activities themselves? are they aware of the almost hypocritical tone that they are sending through these requests? Stop the s*#t m$, no-one likes you, and you cant stop people from merely disscussing various subjects, whether or not it concerns your company or not. this is beyond pitiful
What about using this technology in an office environment, have insane lans runnin in the office, just stick all the lasers up in the ceiling space or even higher towards the ceiling in the open air. this would most likely eliminate the problem of dense atmosphere, while still providing immensly high amounts of bandwidth to a whole building. Im sure you could set up a simple , straight conduit if you wanted to go between floors, and of course just mirrors and prisms for angles. seems like something large size corps would really love to have, while it might be a bit expensive for the equipment itself and also would probably be quite unstable (again, animals come into play (rodents in ceiling space would completely kill connections) but again, you could easily prevent this with simple conduits. To me, this is one kick ass technology

in order to make a few extra bucks on the off chance that you were a geek and tooled with it.

...and then it hits you, google really know's what they're doin.... Buyin lots of cheap machines as opposed to buying a few expensive ones
sorry, didnt remember, you can add *nix-y goo under native

is it just me, or does this thing look a hell of alot like those pics of the mac prototype mouse that were leaked a while ago?

if you're so disgusted, then dont buy the fsckin thing! I can assure you we're all so impressed by your pitiful slamming of this product. get over it

Sue all the phuckin services you want, its not going to stop us...
Attack the creators of technology that enable the common public to share their common intrests, its not going to stop us...
Go after your listener base, the only reason for your existence, its not going to stop us...
You're only hurting yourself Mr. Artist, in the end, you dont decide, in this world, WE DO!
We will continue to use the services as they are offered, and defend them to the utter end...
We will further push the limits of technology to facilitate the sharing of intrests and expresion, and defend it to the utter end...
We, your fan base will destroy your career, to your utter demise...
We will continue, no matter the threat, lawsuit, or ruling...
In the end, you hurt, Not us

Hmmm... so if i want some of this emmense bandwidth, i just stick a prism in the path of one of the beams? kinda split the beam...
