And for those of you that might argue the difficulty factor of Linux for novice users (which accounts for nearly 90 percent of the computing population), let's not forget that such users might not even be comfortable in using advanced settings in Windows.
This just kills me. I have installed the different versions of Windows over the years dozens of times, and various distributions of Linux also dozens of times. Maybe years ago Linux was difficult but today there are many distributions that are pretty much braindead easy to install (certainly no more difficult than Windows) and have desktop environments that make it equally easy to use. As far as little things (or big) not working "out of the box" such as sound or whatever... I have consistantly had far more trouble getting things to work in a new Windows system than in Linux! Windows certainly isn't easies (I'd argue that its much harder)...its just what most people know. But most people wouldn't be able to install Windows and get it working if their life depended on it...they BOUGHT the computer that way. If computers all came with Linux installed... I seriously doubt we would be hearing this tired arguement all the time. Linux has been more ready for the desktop than Windows for quite a while now. The PC retailers just haven't figured that out yet.

Andromeda is actually quite a good show. As usual, when people talk about how a show sucks, they have only watched the early episodes where things are inevitably rough. Trance Gemini hasn't been purple or had a tail for a long time now. Yes that's right, same character, COMPLETELY different look. How did this happen? Well no one knows how she physically changed exactly but a version of her from the future traded places with her purple self in the present (permanently) in one episode. Yep, sure sounds like boring unoriginal stories doesn't it?
I can't believe how many people think that Star Trek has gone downhill since TNG. Seems to me this is a case of people having trouble accepting change, the old "they don't make them like they used to" completely unfounded in reality. DS9 and Voyager were completely different, but in my opinion both blew away TNG. Most people who talk bad about DS9 and Voyager probably didn't see an episode past Season 2. Every Star Trek is lacking in the early seasons... TNG is unbareably lame and very 80's for the first 2 seasons at least.
Go watch an episode from the later seasons of either DS9 or Voyager and compare them to a TNG episode. If nothing else, the quality of the show improved drastically. The bridge of the Enterprise-D looks like someone's living room, while the bridge of Voyager looks exactly how I would expect a military/scientific earth based ship to look. And of course DS9 was awesome because they took out most of the Federation technology and gave you something completely fresh: Cardassian technology.
I would almost expect Enterprise to get better in later seasons as well, except they are already pretty far along, and the premise of the show was just such a bad idea. The have been undermining everything laid down by the previous series'. Ferengi? The Borg? Give me a break! Those were cheap and desperate moves to gain viewers at the expense of the Star Trek universe's integrity.
Thank you soooo much for posting this! Just today after the stupid breaker on our house popped, my G4 would no longer boot. If I hadn't read this last week, I would have thought for sure my computer was DEAD. Resetting the PMU worked like a charm.:)
Trance is gonna suck, as is most dance music. Who wants all their dj mix cds to be one file?? Or worse, have a gap between each track. Apple, oh Apple, WHY won't you address the issue of seamless (but still tracked) music?? if MP3/AAC can't handle it, then you should be supporting OGG or something that can. And the iPod can't even play a trance cd ripped as one track without stopping halfway through. Why the hell can't it read in more data while playing what is currently in memory?? Grrr!!!

The best thing to do is buy a car stereo with an aux input. I used to use an FM modulator (commonly used to add XM Radio) but the sound quality was really bad compared to my current solution... A JVC KD-SH55 CD player with 1/8" aux input jack on the front, a 1/8" stereo audio cable, an iPod car charger, and of course, an iPod. Absolutely excellent sound quality.
